I was impressed with how John Scully took control of the corner in order to try to talk to Dawson the other week. He basically told everyone, including highly respected boxing man Rafael Garcia, to shut the **** up.
SR's insistence on sending up between round instructions from the stands is a big part of the 'lack of organization' in JR's corner.
The only ya ya ya I saw was when Freddie was saying to let the right hand go, as Sergio was walking into it. JR's ya ya ya was like, ya ya ya, "im gonna go for that". It was a strategy change since Sergio wasnt letting JR let go inside. Both knew JR wasn't gonna wear Sergio down to the body, and his new goal was to time his R hand from the outside.atsch I don't see what you guys are talking bout. But his facial expressions many times during the bout showed displeasure/frustration towards his entire corner.....he was getting peppered and taking an L, and there was nothing they had focused on in preparation to counter that. :think
Oh yeah, I agree.....but JR dont know English well enough to take instruction like that from behind. Ideally a trainer could mold his man to have a more complete game, but not everyone has the tools....for guys like JR, a trainer has to force the warrior outta him, and you can't do that through an interpreter.:think
Is it normal for a conditioning coach to be in the corner? Ariza is in the corner of all his fighters but I can't think if it's the same with other conditioning coach's.
Agree. Only thing again is the language barrier. But even then the law should be laid down that once Coach Freddy speaks, the only person to speak next should be Freddy's chosen "translator" to convey what he wants to say.
Ariza is the only one I can think of. Will say he seems "tuned down" recently though, maybe after Freddy was about to not let him come out there at all. You damn sure don't see Mackie Shillstone out there tellin' Bernard Hopkins what to do.
no, it wasnt. he was looking outside the ring when he said that. im pretty sure his dad was yelling instructions at him.
This. He looked outside the ring, shouted "ya" a bunch of times and then goes back to listening to Roach. I've just watched it back and it sounds like somebody is shouting from behind the camera, likely Chavez Sr. He wasn't disrespecting Roach at all.
Roach was giving him the speech about if he doesn't throw anything he'll stop it and Chavez said ya ya ya
I would have to watch it again but I thought that was directed at whoever was shouting at him outside of the ring (like his Father/Brother) and not at Roach.
Roach is one of the GOAT trainers but in recent years he's been slipping which is normal with his condition
