History's most prime matchup to take place?

I don't believe that it was. It's easy to pick one fight and say that is a guy's prime based on his opponent who was made to make him look good. Felix only fought a few fights at 154... and that was after spending years in the Welterweight division and being a long time Champ at 147. 147 was definitely his prime weight. That would be like saying that Oscar's prime weight was 140. I personally felt that he looked his best at that weight, but it's impossible to say something like that when he spent such a short time there.

Felix and Oscar were both undefeated 147 pd Champs. Both young, in their prime... at the weight that was best for them. Tito spent the balk of his career at that weight. The build up was huge, the matchup was huge, their following was huge, and it was the biggest non-heavyweight PPV ever at the time... and for over a decade afterward too. Now that record belongs to Oscar vs Floyd of course.

Everything was perfect about that fight... except for the fight itself as it was a one sided boxing lesson given out by Oscar... only to have it forever tainted with a horrible decision.

I definitely enjoyed Oscar vs Shane I more as an actual fight though. Great fight.

I don't how the hell you could say the guy that destroyed Cuevas and pushed prime SRL to the absolute edge was 'green', Hearns looked as good as he ever did at 147.

 

As has been said they are many, Morales/Barrera 1 is what I thought of.

No, he was not at all. Trinidad was not the same fighter above 147. The fight with DLH was both of them in their prime.

 

Foreman vs Frazier?

I know the fight was one sided but Foreman never looked better and Frazier had beaten Ali only a coupe of fights earlier.

how about Duran-De Jesus?

I believe Duran was at his absolute physical peak at that time at 135 and he was facing a his rival who is also putting his own belt on the line.

Both seems to be at the right age as well.

Lacy vs Calzaghe. Just read the the posts on how people thought it was going to unfold as Lacy brought his two belts to the UK to unify with Calzaghes WBo Strap.
The yanks were sure their man was coming home with all 3 belts and a stunning KO.

It wasn't the top two but another classic I won't ever forget was Benn vs McClelan as again McClelan was going to put a beating on Benn and eat him up.
