Not true at all IMO. Calzaghe didn't stop Lacy. Frazier didn't stop Ali. Marcel didn't stop Shibata. The list goes on, and on, and on.

He was hurt and knocked down against Richard Williams.

He was hurt by a left cross in the 5th round (I THINK!) of the first fight against Paul Williams.

He was dropped by Pavlik. Seemingly balance related but even Sergio admitted he was hurt.

Does everyone not think that finishing strongly in a championship bout is important?

Martinez by decision but if Graziano manages to land his right hand it could be lights out for Maravilla.

How dare you? Martinez has never been hurt and you are clearly a hater of the modern era, Sir :deal :fire

i think martinez will get graziano out of there more often than not, graziano is way smaller than chavez and will fight more aggressively

i'll take prime zale to win at least 50/50 probably more

yes, but if he came out for the 12th with those injuries(particularly the knee) i aint gonna hold it against him.

12 years ago, way before Martinez became the fighter he is today. Martinez ages like fine wine.

I think Martinez KO's every Middleweight champion in a single round, even if they all fought him at the same time.

"Sexiness" unfortunately does not compensate for not having a first class chin.

I think Martinez would avenge his loss to Margarito..I don't hold that against him. He wasn't quite ready for ol' Cheato at that time.

I will but because I want to and Avena Lee wants me to. Not because you want me to. And I will think about Sergio's great performance while I do it.

I don't disagree that Barker is wank!

    However...

compared to the opponents of the guys from the past

who are supposed to be on a much higher level than Martinez...

Barker is at least on par.

I love discussing boxing, have for over 30 years... but the love for some of these guys from past eras (just because they are from a past era) gets out of hand some of the time.

Lamotta, Cerdan, Zale, Graziano, and others. They all beat their share of bums and they all had losses to non-great fighters.

Somebody brought up Martinez' loss to Margarito. That fight was over 12 years ago at WW. Margarito was awesome at that time (with or without loaded gloves) and Martinez would not peak until much later. Since that loss Martinez has looked awesome-

He's gone 34-1-1 (21) overall and 7-0-1 (5) in World Title Fights at JMW and MW. The only loss was to Paul Williams (LMD12)... which was very close and could have went either way, he stopped Williams in the 2nd round of their rematch. The draw was to Kermit Cintron... this really should have been a win for Martinez, a KO win even.

Lamotta would probably give Martinez the toughest fight out of the fighters I mentioned above but I think Martinez would beat them all.
