Great Fighter and top 3 ATG Heavy, Marciano was a freak of nature with an indomitable will, great chin and recuperative power, amazing stamina and two fisted power and great boxing mind, one of the best ever conditioning.....soft-spoken but tremendous killer instinct and finishing power

I am not so sure. Muhammad Ali at 6.3” weighed closer to 200lb when all the other contenders were closer to 190lb, in fact Ali came inside 200lb a few times. This tells me he needed that speed. Ali was an athletic giant. Larry Holmes? Best win at 207lb.
George foreman himself was as low as 217lb for his best wins and he was NOT a 15 round fighter. Was Foreman better at 250lb? I don’t think so.
You put weight on a fighter and he is not as good. Most of the biggest giants could make 220lb -and would be better for it.

    Mine's something like

    Ali
    Louis
    Johnson
    Foreman
    Lewis
    Holmes
    Rocky
    Tyson
    Frazier
    Wlad

I'd have to check but it's pretty much that I think.

A great fighter who fought in the heavyweight division. I rate him as the greatest head to head fighter under 200 pounds. However, I think he does not fare well against the heavyweights who followed him. And I certainly think he would be too small to survive a career at heavyweight in the modern era, just too much damage, too much fighting uphill, fight after fight, year after year. He broke down under the punishment of 180-200 pound guys over the stretch of a career.

And anyone who thinks he could fight nearly effective at 200 pounds has little understanding of his assets, style and body type.

Ok, you were saying you class a superheavyweight as someone as big as Foreman who i say was 217lb and not a 15 round fighter. Wouldn't you say there is a lot of artificial weight atributed to the modern SHW?

IMO SuperHeavyWeights are kind of artificial anyway. There are few exceptions. Its not so much they are getting bigger on their own, more because training has changed. Nobody is fighting a full 3 minuets, nobody is fighting 15 rounds. boxing was a young mans sport because peak fitness and a good pace was a big part of it.. It is not a young mans sport now because once everyone is carrying more weight it neutralises the advantage of youth.

maybe training to stay Leaner, harder and faster shortens a career? If so I still recon the leaner, faster harder guy beats the slower, clumsier tireder guy who is used to fighting other slower guys in most cases.

I was astounded the day I studied the records of some of Rocky's opponents.

At one point, within 18 months of meeting up with Walcott, Rocky fought three straight fights with opponents who had LOSING records.

Can you imagine Ali or Frazier doing that?

Sorry, but it is true. Marciano fought a bunch of cans.

I would put Rocky somewhere around 15th all time.

    Not shabby at all.

I NEVER said Rocky was not a great. I did say he fought an unusually high number of cans and I'll stand by that.

In prime matchups, I would take Jeffries, Johnson, Dempsey, Tunney, Louis,
Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, and Lewis over Rocky.

In addition, I think prime Charles and Walcott would stand very viable chances.

Of course there are others that never held the title that would have made for interesting matchups against Rocky.
