Remember watching him on Friday Night Fights with my boys saying he's the real deal back then. Wish he was in the ring more, but enjoy every time he laces them up. Real talent I hope to see in action again soon.
As i always said, Gamboa is p4p material.Sad that he is badly promoted and he doesnt sell because his nationality.
I agree. He's a great little fighter. A pity he's made a **** decision in joining TMT or whatever the **** it's become now.
It's 80% the former - he doesn't sell because he's badly promoted. With one breakthrough that was Chavez for Martinez and would've been JuanMa for Gamboa, he'd be a big star now, but Arum had to **** that up. Lucian Bute had the "bad nationality" too, but instead of milking a local fanbase like American promoters do, his Canadian handlers properly built the Romanian up to a superstar, and that is the kind of people Gamboa is lacking.
It's too bad this guy can't seem to get in the ring. He is exciting to watch and has just enough vulnerability to make the drama even better. Its a shame that he didn't go through with the Rios fight, a fight I felt he would have handily won, and at that time beating Rios would have been huge for his career. Whoever is handling this guy now needs to get him in the ring, immediately. Its such a waste of a talent for him to sit this long. Especially since he's not exactly young for the divisions he will fight in. And who knows how much it takes from his game to be inactive for so long, we won't really know that until he laces them up again.
if only he was active he'd be fighting at 135 - 140 by now fighting the likes of garcia, khan, de marco, guerrero
Haven't been in the ring in more than a yr hopefully Floyd didn't mess up his career. He's a young star and is very talented along with facing top opposition. Love seeing him fight and adds to another fun Cuban fighter to watch which is a long list(Gavilan, Napoles, Lara, Casamayor, Guillermo at times, etc.) Wish he'd use his IQ much more than athleticism but he has time to grow but I just wanna see him in the ring again. Will continue to support him.
Salgado is moving on as the Gamboa fight is not moving forward. :-( What I'd like to know from those closely following his career... is the Arum lawsuit ongoing or did 50's company reach a settlement before they closed shop, in other words is Gamboa's now a free agent with no threats from Top Rank or is he tied to one or more companies?
