    36 seconds in the round in which Leonard had him hurt, Howard still hangin on..should the ref have stopped this fight or let Howard try to make it outa that round..Either way Leonard had him hurt real bad...:nonono

    Sure, the stoppage was quick in round 9, but Leonard was in control and gonna get Howard outta there by then... Leonard was rusty early on, yet getting sharper as the fight moved on... Howard was tuff / game, but that was it....

    I have always thought this was stopped prematurely...this kind of stoppage rarely seems to happen to the house fighter...

    I believe it is highly likely that the ref stopped the fight at the first opportunity he got because Leonard was the money fighter...my original question remains...why do these type of premature stoppages never happen to the house fighter? I'll leave you to work it out:good

    Referee mindset is totally altered by perception.

    To quote a buddy of mine who would know really, really well;

    "When the local boy hurts his man, the thought is, 'Oh, it's over.' When he gets hurt, the thought is, 'I better give him every reasonable chance, or I'm gonna get lynched.'"

    The amount of sinister involved in referee's doing shady **** is often very, very overstated, but you are spot on when you suggest that these situations alter how they feel and look at a fight.

    The hometown favorite, most often, doesn't even need the help of the promoter that they are reputed to receive. Human psychology is all the benefit they require.

    Oh yes! There always has been and there always will be, as long as there is money in boxing...there will always be "the left hand side of the bill"...
