I don't particularly see how you reach the conclusion that Golovkin has nothing to worry about with Martinez after citing Ouma's speed and jab as problems when Martinez has even more speed, middleweight power, and a heavily used jab that's not only disruptive but also extremely effective.
Makes no sense to cite Geale here since he has mandatories for both belts due and one of them would be a legitimately big fight in his country.
Objective post OP. While much of what you say about the Ouma fight is accurate there are two big factors not considered. 1) The style Golovkin fought in against Ouma was unlike anything he's done before or since. If you've watch more than just that one fight that should be clear. Dictating range, slipping, blocking, parring punches are all things he's good at. 2) His trainer Able Sanchez did a radio interview after the Proksa fight and shared a story regarding the Ouma fight that no one from their camp had talked about until then. Golovkin had no promoter at that time due to his legal battle with Universum. The travel arrangements for that fight were not good and Golovkin's visa was expired. He had to stay in a airport for 2 days without sleeping or eating while solving his visa issues then when they finally could fly they landed in Panama and went straight from the airport to the weigh in. Sanchez said if Golovkin was ever going to lose a fight it would have been that night. Geale SD Sylvester Proksa TKO 3 Sylvester
These points are why Sergio Martine has a chance to beat Gennady Gennadyevich Golovkin, Sergio Martinez's speed and movement would mean that GGG wouldn't have as much opportunities to plant his feet and land bombs. If GGG is getting caught as he moves forward often then it could lead to him getting stopped as Sergio Martinez hits hard or simply his face would be swollen and bruised. I think Sergio Martinez wins on points, GGG has a chance to hurt and stop Martinez, but Martinez would be favoured to outpoint GGG.
Really? Soliman's not that big a draw and the IBF mando could be held off til after the WBA mando. If Geale choose Soliman over Golovkin, he'd be taking lesser money and lesser exposure. Geale was ready to fight Pirog in the US, and he jumped at the chance to fight Sturm in Germany, so he's not the type to back down from big oppurtunities. If his goal is to get Martinez in the ring, a December win on HBO over GGG would seem to be the most beneficial. Vacating that title and not fighting on US tv seems less so.
Very good point Vysotski! I have watched all of Golovkin's fights that I could find on Youtube, and the Ouma fight is really different with regards to style. Could very well be explained by visa-mayhem distractions and achieving match-weight at an airport. Must have been hell. Regarding Martinez: Martinez has lost twice before, to Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams. Both these guys combined high-volume punching and considerable power. Golovkin managed 126 punches in round 9 against Ouma and has the highest KO stats since Edwin Valero. Martinez will dance around and look good for a few rounds (like against Margarito), but when fatigue and hits starts accumulating he will slow down and he will have no chance whatsoever. :bbb
Citing a 12 year old fight with Margarito is absolutely absurd at this stage and really strains your credibility. Golovkin's output in round 9 was after Ouma had slowed considerably and isn't really indicative of his usual workrate. And I still don't understand why you don't think Golovkin would have trouble with Martinez's movement when you cited his inability to set his feet versus Ouma as one of the main reasons for his problems. Again Martinez's movement is far superior to Ouma's and I like his odds of making it the distance if that past-it Ouma nevertheless had the fitness to go 10.
Absurd? no. A stretch? slightly. But still, the Margarito-Martinez fight is IMHO a very good blueprint for a Martinez-Golovkin fight. Golovkin has a high punch output - there is no denying that. And yes - he would have problems with Martinez movement for a few rounds.
Mayweather a few years ago would box circles around Golovkin, im simply being realistic. GGG punches like a mule that cannot be denied and has proven pedigree abeit in the amatuers. Dont pretend a natural, hardhitting skillful middleweight wouldnt put the naturally much smaller, weaker and faded fighter out for the count. Mayweather for all his skill would actually need a bit of brawn to beat a fighter like Golovkin.
