Those listed, not Mercer, Tyson, nor Tua though, I agree. Height doesn't always correlate with weight. From the last 20 years Foreman, Lewis, Wlad, Bowe Vitali and are my top 5 shw's.
Of those SHW's only Vitali can be included. It is not a top 5 it is a top one. The question was "never weighed less than 225" a genuine SHW never weighs less. Foreman weighed 217 for his finest win. Bowe weighed as low as 218lb and was 225 or less 5 times in the first 3 years as a pro. Vlad was less than 225lb for his entire first year as a pro. Lewis weighed only 221lb against mike weaver a year before he won a title. Superheavyweight is a myth.
My definition is foreman or bigger. I made that quite clear. So Foreman, Lewis, Wlad, Bowe and Vitali make up my top 5 shw.
tyson at 190 what makes you think that??? have you seen his workout regime, under your thinking of weighing less than 225 for a fight, is rocky marciano not a 178lber, basicaly a lhw?
This content is protected imagin marciano trying to get inside on valuevs jab haha, then hold his weight up for 15 rounds when he gets leaned on haha.
i know these are welterweights/light middles, but shaq isnt even a fighter. look how easily he can move them around, and these are pro fighters vs a big bball player. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpm0DU3S2dc[/ame]
But george Foremans prime 217lb is not that big. I keep hearing about Atg Super Heavyweights but there is not many that have always weighed more than 225lb. Only one of your 5 SHW (if they exist) never weighed less than 225.
but weight is only one side of the story, rocky would indefinatly weigh less if he had a modern diet, all the red meat rocky ate adds weight by rotting in his colon, and george was always under weight from the weight draining sadler put him through before every fight, the tale of the tape is the best way to put foremans size in perspective.
But against Norton and Ali he was over 220. There's been 4 great shw's: Foreman, Lewis, Wlad and Bowe.
george was still 217lb for his best win, the fight that made him. He was not a growing kid so under older training methods with more running George would have been 210 easily. 210 is not a Superheavyweight and neither is 217. All the talk of bigger versus smaller is always about how a ATG gets on aganst a guy over 225, well if the 225 guy had been less is he reallya 225 plus guy? Heavyweights have kept their weight around that of the elite fighters regardless of their own frame. Even Lennox Lewis, an Atg GIANT who started his career at 230 did not want to be too slow against his first step up opponent (215 Mike weaver) so Lewis came in at 221 proving what is possible for all SHW framed fighters. If he could cut down to 221, why was he ever heavier? I tell you why because any more is not a natural fighthing weight for an elite fighter. Its a game plan.
right, well any fighter as big or bigger than big george is what I call a SHW and against those who are great SHW's (Foreman, Lewis, Wlad and Bowe) I wouldn't favour Rocky, Dempsey nor any sub 200 pound fighter.
look at georges tale of the tape, his weight is one side of the story, he would be 10lbs heavyer if sadler never weight drained him. i belive marciano could have been 4-8 lbs lighter if he had a modern diet.
Anyone know the punch-stats for HW fights back then? And for the HW fights that had fights between 200 pound or below HWs, what were the punch-stats? People may overlook that fighters may pace themselves more with increased rounds. People also have to remember that fights can be slowed down because of "caution" and "Control." Better Defense, Grappling, etc. can slow down a fight. You can have all the stamina you want but when you are taking punches it can deplete your energy quite fast. And when going up against a Big Man like Lennox, who walked on to the scene around 230, he has the ability to control you with his Jab and tie you up and lean on you when in close. The Big Men of the Modern Era are leagues above the ones that came before Physically and Technically. Bowe vs. Holyfield I was quite a battle. I wonder what the punch-stats for that fight was. David Tua vs. Ike Ibeabuchi "They set a heavyweight record with 1,730 punches thrown. Ibeabuchi also set the individual record by throwing 975 punches and averaging 81 per round. The heavyweight average is around 50. " [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ike_Ibeabuchi[/ame]
I remember hearing that. What was the exact story? I just remember hearing that they wanted Foreman "light" to make sure he had the stamina to go the full fight...but in the end, it actually may have taken away from his energy/stamina because he wasn't feeding his body properly for recovery. When you don't replenish your system, it has a negative effect on your body. With his Frame, he should have been 230 with proper conditioning and diet even in a 15 round fight era. Stamina can be helped when you don't throw bomb after bomb and you teach yourself to stay relaxed instead of tight. Not every punch has to be thrown with full force.
yeah I'm not saying size automatically makes a man better, but generally speaking a good big un beats a good little un.
