Are Todays Heavyweights Capable Of Fighting Like This?

To be fair, brawling it out isn't the smartest thing to do.
People normally rate chin far too much, while defence can carry you much farther.

 

A couple of those posters you quoted have a point. Evander I can understand, but it was suicide for Bowe to fight like that considering his attributes. He could have made life so much easier for himself had he used his height and his jab to control the fight from the outside. Of course, then we wouldn't have had the blisteringly entertaining fight we got, but there's no less skill involved in outside boxing as there is in inside fighting, and considerably greater benefits to your career longevity.

 

Chisors doesn't have anything approaching the speed, movement or precision of either fighter. The closest HW in recent times is probably James Toney though he didn't really have the sort of dance partner that would have allowed for moments like this. Sam Peter doesn't really count.

 

Never mind that fight go back to the "Thrilla in Manilla two over the hill fighters. Know 2 modern heavies could go at that intensity over the stretch

 

What sort of bar fights have you watched where both fighters were ducking and weaving and throwing crisp counter hooks like that??? Seriously mate, next time you go make sure you bring an HD digital camera and film the whole thing. You'll be rich.

So it was Lewis's last fight and he clowned Vitali by not rematching him.That doesn't mean that this sloppy scrap,in which neither fighter bought his A-game, should be considered a classic .

 

Meh.He was technically as good as Holyfield on the inside and a bit more heavy handed.It's a double-edged strategy with punishment guaranteed,but one that favoured Bowe.

 

Well, either strategy would have favoured Bowe as he was the bigger, stronger, younger man. But tactically what benefits were there in letting Evander into the fight at all?

 

Just to flip things a little:

Would Riddick Bowe have had the discipline and mental concentration to fight like Wlad for twelve rounds, or would he have given in to temptation at some point in the fight and got into his customary tearup?

 

That Hollyfield, Bowe fight was an excellent fight , however it took on a personal edge and thats why they got down man to man. That was Bowes best fight and he did exhibit some fine boxing skills also. As for Holyfield, anybody who have watched him cant deny the fact that the man was a world class boxer. Don't even mention Ali cause there has never been a heavyweight, then or now that have displayed such boxing versitility as him.:bbb:bbb
