Neither Lewis nor Liston has proven elite stamina, but I think it's reasonable to give Liston the edge here, wich was the original point I think.

So did Liston really have an 84 inch reach and
15 inch hands? Great matchup, could Lewis
bomb out Liston early, I believe Lewis had faster
hands. If Lewis doesnt ge the early KO I think
Sonny can outjab him and break him down,
however I believe Lewis lands that big right,
Lewis too big and strong. Lewis KO 7. I wanna
    Hear some Liston arguments

I think that this may look like the Lewis/Mercer fight.

That night Ray Mercer did alot of the same things I could see Sonny doing. He jabbed with and outjabbed Lewis in pockets of the fight took everything Lennox could throw and rocked back with his own.

Lewis gutted it out that fight and showed true toughness and a pretty good chin.

Its possible the fight could look something like that.

Now thats a fight! Lewis woulda been a little to tricky for Sonny...Matchin his power possibly Lewis outpowers Liston...I see Lewis either Knockin him out in late rounds..Or Lewis winning a decision. Lewis woulda just been too much for Soony.

Agreed, but I don't see Liston taking some of those monster shots that Mercer withstood from early in the fight onwards. Of course, put a puncher of Liston's calibre and ability in with Lewis, and he always has a chance.

    Aye t'was.

Still so undecided with this fight, very hard to analyse how it could potentially play out and hard to predict who would be doing the outjabbing here. Lewis has the edge in speed and height and Liston the edge in his head movement (to slip) and power, reach i'd imagine would be similiar (Liston may measure longer but he'd be punching up). Both are just as skilled as the other, Lewis would be better during the first half, Liston the second. :think

    Liston by decision

    -Same exact reach (213cm each)
-Liston was a very technical boxer (dosen't get as much credit)
    -Liston hit harder than Lewis
-Liston was iron chinned better than Lewis'
-And i'd see Liston being more willing to engage than Lewis

The only way i see Lewis winning is if he could intimidate Liston, but still then Lewis does not act like Ali and don't think he could get through to him.

I really doubt Liston had a 7' reach. I have no doubt that Lewis did have a 7" reach. Lewis stands 6'5" so Liston would be punching up... the shortest distance from point A to point B is a straight line... you do the math. Anyway, Lewis would be about 5" taller... it would matter.

Liston punched harder? Based off of what evidence?

Liston was a good overall boxer... but better than Lewis? I don't think so.

Chin? Liston was down and out vs. Ali and Leotis Martin. Lewis was down and out vs. McCall and Rahman. Not sure why you insist that Liston has the better chin? At least Lewis avenged both of these losses and never quit.

When Lewis respected the other man's power... he was actually more agressive... see his fights vs. Ruddock, Briggs, Golota, and some others. Lewis was a aggressive as he had to be.

-It's a fact that Listons reach was that long..
-Liston was known for being a puncher, Lennox not AS MUCH as Liston
-And as soon as you said Liston better chin? he was down against Ali everything you said became pretty much invalid to me if you think there wasn't something going on there you need to watch that fight again or something.... and aswell with saying that about Listons reach that was his reach 213cm exacly the same as Lennox's,And come on how old was Liston vs Leotis Martin...he definatley looked older than it said he was. I don't know what your on about man.....

Lewis. I am not reading too much into the Mercer fight because Ray is a damned good heavyweight with a cast iron chin.

Lewis is the bigger better fighter IMO and wins in a mid rounds KO Briggs-style.

I'll tell you what I am on about... man!

Too many people around here are high on a drug could Nostalgia.

Sure, Liston was perceived as a huge puncher... big scary guy with a criminal record and mob connections, etc... that doesn't mean that he actually hit harder than Lewis though.

Where are these facts about Liston's 84" reach? Like I said, even if his reach was a foot longer than his height... he'd still be punching up and that would take a little something off of his reach and his power.

Chin? Yeah, Ali dropped him clean. Liston got up and the fight should have continued... but it didn't. The bottom line is that Ali did drop him in the 1st round with a clean punch. I've seen the fight at least a million and a half times. Liston was 76 years old (actually 39, some say 40) when he fought the 199 Lb Leotis Martin but he was still KTFO. When Lewis was 75 years old (almost 38 actually) he took good shots from the 248 Lb Vitali Klitschko and remained standing... hell, he even won!

Well me and alot of people will agree that although Lewis won that fight technically Vitali won the fight and the entire crwod weemed to agre and the commentators too, ''would you say lennox won the fight Vitali won the event i believe it was... why do you think Lennox promised everybody a rematch and then retired cause he knew he'd lose.but anyway not the point yes Liston would have to punch up that's obvious, if you ask boxing historians ect im sure they'll agree Liston was a harder puncher just look at the way he finished opponents, even Joe Louis said Liston will be champ aslong as he wants to be, i still believe Liston would win this fight, it's like when people from different eras say who would win out of Tyson Ali and people who grew up in the Tyson era always say Tyson because they believe him to be invincible and unbeatable cause that's how they remember him and older people from the Ali era remember him for what he did , im pretty sure you not from the Liston era? but i've heard what was thought of Liston and heard people talk about how invincible and unbeatable he seemed and just imagining it i can't see Lennox winning....epecially by k.o

    Lewis ko 4
Liston 'might' have had an 82 or 84 inch reach but he would be outjabbed as Lewis was much bigger overall, this is a big factor when it comes to jabbing it's not just about wingspan.
AND I dont believe the stats about Charleyboys reach or height or age.

Lewis is the REAL puncher in this matchup and he would outgun him and then bomb him outa there with ease.

Nostalgia aint what it used to be.
