"Ali-Young" of '76 was iffy at best in action, yet Ali did edge Young.

    Folks,

I just sat through my copy of "Ali-Young" from 1976 and I still insist this bout was little more than a decent sparring match on TV at best.:deal:-((

Young was well-tuned at 209 pounds, yet too defensive and displayed no real fire to take away the belt from the sluggish 230 pound Ali.:nono

I realize Ali looked stinky in April of '76, but Young had nothing to offer in terms of a serious offense.

After 15 so-so rounds of horse-shitting about the ring, I favored the champ Ali by a point or two based on his aggression and strength over Jimmy Young.:good

It's now in the boxing history books for all to see and make an opinion on.:yep

Negative, Yancey.... Young sparred like he was looking for all 15 rds... Young showed me nothing in terms of seeking to be THE CHAMP!:-(

Ali was in okay shape at best at 230 pounds, but he showed he at least came to fight a bit, where as Young seemed happy about his opportunity and payday...
    :think
    Ali won in my book.:hey

Either way, it's simply his own fault for not understanding his obvious situation and punctuating his supposed superiority. Boxing isn't just about making someone miss. It's not even just about getting the better of somebody. It's about winning ability, meaning you also have to know when the deck is stacked against you and actually take it upon yourself to do something about it.

Yes, it is about getting the better of someone, that's exactly what it's about. It's not at all about knowing the deck is stacked against, or any other nonsense. It's a boxing match, that's all it is, Ali showed what he really was against a skilled defensive artist, counterpuncher. He didn't show much aggression either cause every time he tried, he missed and ended up getting countered by the so called featherfisted young. That's why he ended up in the hospital with a broken eardrum and some other problems. Actually, he didn't do so well against Frazier, morgen and shavers either, or even Lyle, though he did catch up with Ron later on. No, wasn't all that great at boxing, though thankfully for him, it seems as though they had the pro wrestling officials scoring his fights.

I felt the same way, and I agree with Boxed Ears analysis.

Ali wanting to win more did it for me, in 8 rounds, because neither guy was getting hit with much of anything.

It can't be because I'll sue. "Masturbating in the Clutch" is the name of my soon to be published memoirs.

Nothing will move me. Ali won against Young in April '76.

Clear win for Young. Whether it was exciting or not does not matter Jimmy Young outboxed Ali for 15 rounds. Ali looked like ****.

Some even say Jimmy Young didnt deserve the belt becasue he put his head outside the ropes a couple of times when he was cornered. Had Ali done that those same people wouldve been saying how smart it was.

The "take the title from the champ" excuse got out of hand during this era with Ali. They just wanted to keep him Champion.

    Jimmy Young won the fight.
