More of a matter of genetics than bodyfit PP? Marciano was stout but extremely trimmed. He's just not a cut up looking guy, but his bodyfat looks to be rather lower in comparison to many fighters nowadays, particularly HWs. I would say his bodyfat was low but he's hydrated. I'd venture Jones bodyfat against Ruiz might have been a hair higher than Marciano's. That is purely speculative, though.

How does he fare against Joe Louis?

You can argue his merit in this particularly style matchup (I see more danger than merit either way). But to suggest Jones is superior HW when we've seen very little of him at this division is quite of stretch. Unless we expect him to basically avoid every powerful shot, or fight a limited fighter like Ruiz. The point is we don't quite know. There's too much uncertainty with him at Heavyweight.

Marciano's ability to cut the ring off is one of his more underrated skills. I don't see Roy leaving the ring on his feet.

A 34 year old Jones fights much more proven over the distance at HW than Walcott or Charles? Laughable. If Marciano gets into gear he'll suffer the same kind of fate they did (In the case of Charles) They didn't just fade, Marciano broke them down.

If you mean prime Jones, then we're pitting a small LHW against Marciano. In that case, hopefully Jones ribs are still intact after the fight.

A slugger/Swarmer with a good chin and power is not a bad style match up for Jones. If Marciano wins, it would be the size advantage out weighing Roy's skill. In fact I'll even say Jones is ahead on points before he gets caught.

Marciano wins even if it is a 6 rounder. Jones has no where near the ability to handle him. Walcott and Charles, and La Starza had way more talent, how can the comparison even be asked?

None of the three mentioned had more talent than Roy. Not even close.

That said, Roy probably leaves the ring on a stretcher.

Jones did take on Ruiz Burt, then he tried to get fights with Holyfield, Tyson and Lewis. Tyson and Holyfield didn't want to fight him, Holyfield turning down a huge paydap as he didn't want to look foolish - see Holyfield ONTHEROPES interview. The Lewis fight didn't get made, so he went down to face Tarver

I think Jones knew Lewis and the Klits were too big for him but he was happy to get in with Holyfield. He talked about fighting Holyfield in '99 but ofcourse Holyfield then lost to Lewis

    Dear GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jones would not even fight the other champs to become the unified champ, no way he even gets in the ring with Rocky and if he does he will get KO'd.

Jones is a great SMW and Rocky is a great HW,

It's a bit of an irrelevant side topic but I just don't think his bodyfat was superlow. It looks lower than normal in that pic, his abbs are defined, impressive, what training camp is that from? I'd guess at him being around 12% bf, but a complete tank of a man and a punching machine none the less

Nothing wrong with that level of bodyfat, but it was higher than say Jones bodyfat

Maybe Rocky would be in a reasonable shape at 200lbs though

Jones was near unhittable in his prime. He was lightning of both hand and foot ... he was much faster than Charles or Walcott, was far fresher than the versions of these men that fought Rocky and had to do so in compromised spirts and got hit far less .. this is fact. If this is a thread solely about Jones v.s Marciano I wrote that Jones may simply be too fast for Marciano and Rocky may never be able to get set to do damage. Jones had the ability like a Mayweather or a Whitaker to throw his opponents off a gear ... I also wrote that conditions like ring size and the ref would play a major impact and that I would still pick Marciano. I stand by what I wrote.

I love how people try and claim Rocky could have fought at 200 pounds .. of course he could have ... however, he knew his body and his strengths and weaknesses best ... he did not because he knew he was at his best in the mid - 180's ... period .

You've got to understand what type of dude Rocky was, even at 200+ he was above and beyond "reasonable shape" just the morning 5 mile runs and evening 10 mile walks he did meant he was already above "reasonable shape" let alone all the other stuff he did. Even when Rocky didn't have a fight signed he trained like crazy, always adhered to a strict diet, when he dined out he'd always ask for lean cuts of meat, never splurged with fatty foods. I've heard his younger brother would sometimes wake up at night and find Rocky standing in the dark lifting a chair over his head, again and again. That was the type of guy he was, those in his camp talked about how easily he could gain weight and it really took alot of training to get below 200.

Here's a shot of Rocky in the off season, he hasn't yet signed for a fight

And here's one of him the day of the weigh in before a fight

As you can see not much difference he just looks abit pudgier in the face in the first picture and is more defined in the second but that could also be due to the difference in quality of the photos. Marciano doesn't have genetics like RJJ, he's not very defined, while RJJ is very defined.

PP,let's get REAL...If Roy Jones DID issue a CHALLENGE to Holyfield, Tyson and Lewis, it was because they were well PAST their primes, and
TALK is CHEAP...In their respective primes these 3 guys eviscerate any version of Roy Jones, NOT because they had more TALENT P4P, but they were twice as strong [at least ]...
Roy Jones who I admire today for his astuteness as a commentator on boxing was never as good a lightheavyweight as many LHs I could name in the 1940s and many after...He was truly a super middleweight at his best
but could never cope with the big boys, and please don't mention an old
journeyman John Ruiz....When Floyd Patterson was at his best he would have destroyed Roy Jones IMO...Cheers...
