How would he fare in todays era? Would he be able to clean out the heavyweight division including the K bros? Had size (82" reach, 6'3" ~240 lbs), tremendous power (especially with his signature "smash" punch), and overall good skills (good boxer, great jab), decent chin (took monster shots from Mike and lasted, although he KD multiple times in both fights) The Tyson fights finished him though ... he definitely does much better against Lewis if he fights him at his peak before being worn out by Tyson ...
Razor didn't have a tremendous jab, and he couldn't box, he barely had a jab................... he had no right hand either he was a power puncher looking to land big everytime and both Klits knock him out, prime for prime
Both Klits would KO him. Razor had good athletic ability. The potential was there but he never developed any real boxing skill. One of his problems was that he couldnt relax in the ring. He was never comfortable boxing. Razor always wanted to end the fight with one big punch. Not work to set up those punches.
I think more highly than others of Ruddock it seems in recent months. I could envision him beating either or both Klit, and possibly reigning atop the division....I don't think it would be a long reign...but if we are talking prime Ruddock at this very dat...I would favor him over either brother at this stage....haye Ruddock could be a nice war as well. So yeah I think he picks up a strap or two, but nothing of a long lasting reign either.
By the time he fought Tyson, I would agree with this. But I don't think 86-89 Ruddock (back when he and Tyson should have fought) was the one punch head hunter he would become. Ruddock while not a technician had many more facets to his game back then, than the one dimensional slugger he would evolve into (similar to Tyson in that vein as well).
Ruddock was simply a black version of Gerry Cooney of the late 80s and early 90s.... Ruddock was game by 1995 against Morrison in Kansas City, but too one-dimensional overall...... I hate converted southpaws.... Ruddock's left smash was wicked, but his right cross sucked... MR.BILL
his early fights he did have a potent jab and would move around problem was that he tried to become a 1 punch KO fighter ... lacked any defensive skills by then too ... he tried to bang with tyson and that didn't work out had tons of talent though
He'd do damage no doubt, but at the same time he could be vulnerable, and while I can see him landed something huge on Wlad and scoring a KO, he could also end up eating jabs all night long. Strange fighter, Ruddock...if someone had taken him in hand and really taught him how to box, he could (and by rights should) have won a title. The physical ability was there.
I don't know Bill....he had a good right hand when he chose to use it, and a very good right uppercut as well. He just chose to use the left 90% of the time.
There's a reason the guy went through 10 trainers. And how many different managers? And at the end of the day you still have the Razor Ruddock defense and the Razor Ruddock work 25 seconds per round energy level. It's going to be an uphill struggle at all times. The bout I'd like his him and Lamon Brewster and I'd go with Lamon in a battle of the no defense sluggers.
Good enough to hurt Morrison badly, for what that's worth. Limited power punchers like Ruddock don't dominate for long periods, but I can definitely see a prime Ruddock beating a prime Wlad. Vitali is a different prospect: I think that Ruddock could hurt Vitali and would hang in there a lot, but Vitali would break him down. I pick Ruddock to beat Haye and Povetkin.
