Was Jeff Lacy the biggest fraud ever?

  1. They talked about this guy like he was an unstoppable wrecking machine.

In reality he was proper, proper ****.

There's been other guys who got overhyped but I can't think of many who were touted as future atg's but were actually utterly useless like Lacy

Seriously? Lacy was a monster! Calzaghe simply gave the man a boxing lesson. Credit to Calzaghe, Lacy was still a monster. He needed to get back to being more technical though, rather than going for the big KO with every shot. His comeback fight after Calzaghe... Lacy looked incredible in the first two rounds. Throwing hard straight punches, boxing beautifully. Then... in the 2nd round he suffered a tear in his left shoulder. He fought the entire fight with that tear and completely ruined his shoulder. By the end of the fight he had a full thickness tear of his left rotator cuff. Needless to say... Left Hook was never the same after that.

We can take a look at what happened to Lacy and have a greater understanding of how smart it was for Vitali in the long run to stop fighting against Byrd when he tore his shoulder... rather than ruining the rest of his career by continuing to make the injury worse.

No see, really he was an ATG but Calzaghe's mighty slaps ruined him for all time. :rofl

He was fine until Joe Calzaghe ruined him. Same thing happened to Roy Jones Jr

No he wasn't the monster Showtime made him out to be but he could fight, make no mistake.

Syd Vanderpool, Omar Sheika, Scott Pemberton, and Robin Reid were all solid fighters to have on a resume.

But obviously he wasn't as good as advertised.

What? Who the hell was hyping this guy as a future ATG? I don't recall this talk at all. I remember after his fight with Ruben Williams I was sitting in my living room thinking I should get serious with my training KO Jeff and wear some American Flag trunks and tussle with Claz so we can have some proper representation. :bbb

Love how you sprinkled in Vitali in a thread that has nothing to do with the Klits or HW's for that matter.

Wow, did you really think Jeff was that good?

I agree he was a physical speciman but his brain was made of wood, seriously. He needed to add something fluid and loose to his offense and he was horrifyingly predictable. Honestly speaking I'm probably exaggerrating but all the hype that surrounded him made me become more and more critical of his obvious flaws.

But to answer the Thread Starters question....no he wasnt the biggest fraud not even close. Jeff acutally had some talent and tons of heart, he was just a victim of his own hype.

He was good, not a monster, Calzaghe ruined him, Lacy lost his left hook due to injuries, Imagine Joe Fraizer lost his left hook (not that am comparing lacy to joe fraizer).

good solid contender, with a excellent left hook and great heart.
