Earnie Shavers was nothing more than an above average puncher.

Hence it is my controversial opinion, because most don't agree with it :deal Did you read the thread title?

Roach is only successful at training one type of fighter one way, and all the big name fighters that have sought him out as a hired gun, have found that out the hard way. His recent string of big name fighters consecutive losses, is an indication of this. The Wild Card Gym like many others in years past, is just the flavor of the month so to speak.

Again, my controversial opinion, I don't expect most people to agree with it.

 I read both the title and the definition of the word "controversy", as in "a state of prolonged public dispute or debate, usually concerning a matter of opinion." So, we're talking about your opinion, as controversial opinions stated on public Internet forums tend to cause. The thread was likely not meant to cause nothing but silent agreement, with no replies to comments, based on its actually being based on controversy, yeah? So, my reply is basically in line with the thread, I suspect.

My opinion is that most trainers end up specialising in certain types of fighters and styles (You tend to see Steward, another great trainer, finding established talent who are long, rangy, outside fighters for a reason, I think), but overall, we're talking about an elite trainer who has proven it and gets those seeking his advice in a way that reflects that.

    1. If Paulie Malignaggi didn't have brittle hands, he'd be a top p4p fighter. His boxing skill is ridiculous.

    2. Henry Armstrong is the most proven p4p fighter.

    3. A lot of these newer fans would find the old-school bare knuckle fighters extremely boring. Guarding against the knockout. Boxing's purist form.

Tua, Shavers, Judah, all overrated as hell. They lived up to what they would be though Shavers is the best outta the bunch imo.

Agreed. Judah did fulfill his potential.

Dirrell will go the same way.

I keep warning people about overrating young fighters such as Dirrell and especially Alvarez but mainly in general. Talent does not translate to quality wins/performances if it is misguided.

    1. Sergio Martinez hasn't lost a fight since he faced Margarito.

    2. Marquez was only robbed once against Pacquiao.

    3. Lucas Matthysse is the best 140lber out there.

    4. Froch would stop Dawson @ 175

    5. ODLH vs. Cotto would have been the greatest fight in the past decade to make aside from Mayweather vs. Pacquiao

    6. Moreno beats Mares a little easier than people may think.

    7. Broner vs. Gamboa will be the next superfight rivalry.

    8. Mayweather WILL fight Martinez before he retires.
