What if '71 Frazier fought '52 Marciano in a 15 rounder?

It's a hell of a match up .. I used to like Frazier but now I'm not sure ... Joe started a bit slow and had issues with small , crouching guys .. Rocky did not start fast either but could start faster than Joe ... I just see the possibility of Rocky catching him early with a really nasty shot and Joe might not recover ... I just have a real hard time seeing Frazier or Dempsey coming in , blasting away against Marciano and surviving ... the only guy his size I see having the skills to out slug him was Sam Langford and that is because Sam would not simply slug ... I'm by no means saying Rocky is a lock but there is to me a 50% shot he catches Joe early ... if he doesn't Joe chops him up in seven or eight ... it could really go either way ...

One thing that strikes me with FOTC Frazier is his strength - in that fight alone, really. Otherwise in his career he didn't show great physical strength. Bonavena, Chuvalo and Foreman all imposed their physicality on him, but in FOTC he became the perhaps the only fighter to outmuscle Ali at times. He actually looks the physically stronger guy in there, which is something neither Liston or Foreman (one of the strongest HW champions of all time) really manage to convincingly do against Ali.

I don't know what went on with Joe that night, but if he can shove around Ali he'll dominate Rocky too physically. And then it's his fight.

Marciano. Rockys low crouch makes Joes hook miss often. Straight right from Marciano lands and lands often. Overhand right staggers Joe in round 8 and the follow up volley puts him down and out. War while it lasts but Marciano has more guns and a style more likely to give Frazier problems.

Yessir, a night off for the judges. Great night for a fledgling judge to get his feet wet in the boxing world.

Great fight. Wouldnt count either guy out.

    Two great warriors.

Id lean towards Joe Frazier. He was a little more accurate and his punches were shorter and sharper. I think he would land the cleaner shots.

One thing that is overlooked about Joe is that he had some nice boxing skills and when he wasnt at a drastic height disadvantage he used a nice short jab. Against Quarry and even Stander he showed he could box some.

Joe Frazier TKO 9 maybe on cuts.

I got Marciano. While Frazier may be bigger and stronger, Marciano is far more damaging as a puncher and just more relentless overall, hitting anything and everything, breaking everything doing so, be it bones or blood vessels.

It would be one of the greatest slugfests of all-time in which both men go all-out, but Joe ultimately gets the worst of it. I see him eventually succumbing to Rocky's unending punishment in the later rounds.

I don't really see how anyone could take Frazier on points, I think if Frazier won it'd be a TKO from busting up Marciano's face badly. Although both have tremendous stamina, Marciano's is just on another level

As you can see Frazier throws about 39 punches in round 15, while Marciano throws close to 100. That's the difference in stamina. Another thing to factor in is their natures, Frazier is tentative to go in for the kill even against the man who caused him so much grief and spat so much verbal acid at him. In both round 11 and round 15, Frazier hits Ali with hard shots and doesn't follow up he also did this in the second bout with Quarry. Marciano on the other hand as you all probably know the second he hurts his man seriously he's gonna be pouring down punches until something gives way. As you can also see from the footage, Frazier throws the same punches over and over, left, right hook to the body and then a left to the head. Marciano however throws all sorts of punches and utilises both hands very well while Frazier focuses almost solely on his left. Frazier has the superior speed, upper body movement, id say better defense and also bigger but more predictable while Marciano is more awkward, very unpredictable style with no sense of rythm, 2 handed puncher with superior conditioning. I pick the Rock in what would probably be the greatest fight ever.

One guy went 15 with a near prime Muhammad Ali while the other fought a faded 33 year old Ezzard Charles ... not exactly an even gage unless you consider the quality of opposition ( younger, bigger, stronger, faster and much better) to mean nothing ...
