Thanks very much for posting this. I have often wondered exactly where he was now. Sad but typical position so many from that generation, a point well made in the story.

Great told story but sad end. I wish the best to Napoles and hope he lives in peace and comfort.

It's from an event in Mexico, "QUIEN PINTA PARA LA CORONA". Give it a search, you might find something.

Even though its sad to see an old great like that its also great to get some news on past great fighters like Mantequilla Napoles, i always wonder why the boxing media dont do more pieces on the greats of the past while they are still alive and can share their wisdom to the newer generations, sadly most are only remembered when they die.

Some of the exboxers societies in Britain have been interviewing the old fighters. London for example called theirs the Lions in Winter. There are a few on Youtube from South America obviously in Spanish though. I've seen or read a couple of good ones on Bernardo Carabello and Rodrigo Valdez. The Wilfredo Gomez one is good as well.
It would be nice to see an up to date version of In This Corner getting as many of the old fighters while they're still with us.

It would help the status and prestige of Ring magazine greatly if they devoted more pages to the clasic greats of the past and less time to round card girls and other such dreck.
