Golovkin needs to get that Pirog fight again.

 

He probably said it out of frustration. Years ago Arum and Cotto were saying the same thing about Sergio. When you get slapped around and eventually become a pimp you tend to feel it's your turn to do some slapping. I understand to a certain degree.

However I lean with the consensus opinion that fighters should be open to fighting anyone. Even if GG doesn't make sense, as of now, from an economical standpoint, Team Sergio should at least consider him.

 

I don't think anyone would throw GGG in the same category as Barker. The reason why Barker isn't thought of as much, is because noone cared for him before or after the fight. He wasn't being demanded. In fact, noone outside of the UK even knew who he was. GGG, on the other hand, is being hyped big time and is the prime choice for Martinez's next 160 opponent. If Martinez was to beat him, noone would look up on that win with disdain.

But I agree with the rest of your points. Martinez is doing the right thing in moving down to 154 to chase Canelo and Cotto. He may have to be content with fighting one or two nobodies there to force pressure on those two, though.

 

If Golovkin had a huge name and had boxed more than a few times on HBO, Lou would find another excuse to avoid the guy. Even if Golovkin and Martinez are both still boxing and winning big in two, maybe three years Lou will find a reason to avoid GGG. Regardless of the reward the risk is always going to ge to high. It isn't just Lou either, this is the M.O. of nearly all promoters. The goal isnt to fight the best, or to cement legacy, its to makes as much money as possible for as long as possible.

Lou is high too if he thinks Proska is a nobody or a push over. While he may not be an elite fighter, he's very good. GGG, even if hes on HBO everyday knocking out top names will likely never get a fight with Martinez. Sergios people are never going to let that happen. Instead we get fights that showcase a great, dedicated, and skilled champion taking on fighters whose ONLY assest is their name.

 

I get what DiBella is saying, Martinez is now a big money guy and only wants big fights. He's spent years fighting for small purses and isn't going to just give that up.

On the other hand this is a good fight and that it gets dismissed so easily by DiBella is disappointing. Obviously, Golovkin can try to change that. He's been on HBO once and is looking to get on again so maybe, with a big win or two next year it could happen.

Martinez is looking to fight again in May(I think), probably a Chavez rematch or someone like Cotto. That means the earliest time possible for a Martinez-Golovkin match is around Sept/Oct of next year.

Golovkin has time to get 2-3 fights in to make his case for a Martinez match at this time next year . Fight guys like Pirog, Geale, Quillen, Kirkland, Macklin, Lee etc. whoever HBO is willing to accept, fight. If Golovkin does his job a Martinez fight is possilbe.

 

Looking forward to Dibella selling me Cotto.

All of what Di Bella said is true.

Golovkin should fight Geale or Pirog,Quiilin,Barker etc. That would raise his profile and would make the fight with Martinez a much bigger draw.

Beating a mediocre pro like Proska isnt going to sell tickets.

He needs a big-ish fight before Martinez

 

Here's the thing. Dibella doesn't have any other big name fighters, so he's on the other side of every other negotiation, trying to get good fighters fights and can't because it "doesn't make economical sense" and he bleats about it. Here he does exactly that when he has the chance.

 

K2 is trying to make the Geale fight. He wants to obliterate Sturm first.

 

i dont really agree. hes a top guy at 160. i know your old and u wanna get your pay day , but u been gettin old for a while now. my question is why was serg fighting at 160 this whole time? the first fight agaisnt p will was 154. then he moved up an fought p will at 160 and k pav at 160. he shoulda just fought p will at 154 again cuz u kno hes down for whatever he just wants to scrap. then do not move up unless u wanna fight no namers. there good opposition but if u wanna get paid its the the current division u wanna be in. serg was in the best weight class at 154 .

154 is where may last fought at. then theres cotto and alvarez . if u dont get the biggest fight with them there are many other fights.

serg did fight dzin but made dzin move up but still thats a no namer he fought at 160 along with maclklin and barker

No doubt, DiBella has contradicted himself so many times in regards to Martinez. Right there he's saying Cotto is half-dead and Martinez struggles to keep weight on for 160, and a few months later he's gunning for Cotto at a catchweight? :roll:
