DiBella on GGG: "Who would give a flying ****?"

What are people going to talk about after he beats Golovkin and possibly retires? especially in the classic forum.....how Golo was an overhyped Euro who lost once he stepped up just like the others Martinez beat?

Sexy isn't establishing an ATG legacy imo with any of the fans no matter what he does at 160.

 

This is very hypocritical. Golovkin is ready, he's the next best man and here he goes with "oh who would watch'? Man look, at Martinez age it is about the big fights, so move up and fight Ward, Maybe Pavlik again, but not GGG? No deal, with who he fought last year...

Too big of a risk and not enough of a monetary/big-name resume boost reward for a guy nearing 40 coming off of knee surgery and a hard-fought battle.

 

If he unifies the division and finishes with 8-10 defenses of the legitimate crown fighting top rated opposition then he's an ATG Middleweight by default just based on accomplishments in his own era. **** Classic :rofl Golo will be hard to justify as euro hype when he's ruling the division two years from now. :deal

Hopefully that's the case. I didn't like the sound of it for somebody his age who relies so much on movement and being really shifty and agile.

 

So a middleweight titlist who has a small hardcore following, trains out of big bear, holds a title and has a nice KO win on HBO is not good enough. But what did Darren Barker do to get a shot? what about Macklin? Dzrinzurick?

 

Yeah, I don't really get why people are complaining so much. When BHop was at pretty much the same stage of his career a decade ago, he started fighting the biggest names possible like Trinidad and Hoya (even though they were physical mismatches), while making the rest of his defenses against mandatories and safe opponents who had some US name recognition, and if anything it bolstered his legacy. In the meantime, he waited for HBO to build up Jermain Taylor as a big name so that the fight was actually a big one when it got made. I'm not quite sure why there's the double standard here.

 

He holds what is essentially a junior title, with Geale holding the real one. His HBO fight did far and away the lowest rating of the year. Barker, Dzinziruk, and Macklin could likewise be charitably framed as having "small hardcore followings." And again, why should DiBella be happy to go back to fighting the same level of opponent he was forced to take pre-PPV after Martinez's biggest win?

 

What about Barker and Macklin?

The boxing business is about maximising profit and minimizing risk. Martinez has a profitable rematch with Chavez Jr ahead. Practically money for nothing. After that a drop to 154 to challenge Canelo, Cotto or Mayweather before retiring. There is no way that Sergio Martinez is entering the ring with Golovkin unless a) his plan !"#¤ b) a messy divorce or c) Chavez Jr beats him.

 

As a fan i would love to see the fight but from Lou and Martinez's pov it makes no sense fighting someone dangerous for some change. This reminded me when the public was giving FLoyd a hard time for not fighting Margo.
