Forcing fights that made no financial sense by drastically overpaying them (a la Bradley-Alexander and Dawson-Tarver) is a big part of what got Ross Greenberg fired. I doubt Hirschman will make the same mistake, and he has a long history of getting good bang for his buck. But that's the only reason the fight would get made - if HBO pays more money for it than it's worth, or if Golovkin actually builds up to being a recognized name. Plus, if HBO is going to overpay for Martinez to fight anyone, it will be Andre Ward, not Gennady Golovkin.

In the meantime, Sergio is chasing Mayweather, Cotto, Alvarez and a Jr rematch. All of those make a ton more money, and get him greater overall recognition. They make enough more money than anything else that, if Martinez can't get one of those right away, he's not going to fight anyone too dangerous because a loss takes those possibilities completely off the table.

:| You're right, DiBella should enthusiastically endorse a fight with a still obscure Kazakh immediately instead of even considering the possibility of a fight with a significantly bigger star around his weight class. That's surely the way to capitalize on the biggest win of his career.

There is no possibility. Why don't you understand that? Mayweather's not fighting him. Canelo's not fighting him because he's waiting for Cotto or Mayweather himself. Pacquiao isn't even in the realm of possibility.

I mean, be realistic. Martinez only has the Chavez Jr. rematch. That's it.

    THIS ^ :good !
All clown-***gits are saying that Martinez should fight Golov. but what they would do if they would be in Martinez position ? A 38 y.o fighter who had a tough road in pro boxing and finally now he succeeded to establish his name in boxing and make good money ! People are forgetting very fast that Martinez fought with the best ranked fighters from jr MW and MW ...... and bigger sized than him !

Golov should try to establish his name too by fighting with guys like : Macklin , Geale, Pirog and Rubio , beat them and then call out the champ !

Categorically ruling those fights out strikes me as hasty given the fact that many things can transpire over the next 4-6 months. Likewise, Kizer has already begun indicating that Chavez is not likely to receive a full year suspension, so there's no reason to pretend that rematch cannot be his next fight.

    What?:huh

I already said the Chavez Jr. rematch is all Martinez realistically has, as a big money fight option.

And it's not hasty, it's logic. Mayweather isn't even interested in fighting right now, and he damn sure isn't fighting Sergio in his comeback fight. Canelo and Cotto are each other's dance partners. Unless Sergio's resigned himself to wait for over a year being inactive, his only next logical step is the rematch with Chavit.

Sorry, Ring Master was indicating that Chavez would still be suspended so Golovkin is the obvious next opponent.

Canelo, Cotto or even Kirkland are possibilities maybe this time next year (after Cotto-Canelo is settled). The fights down at 154 are more lucrative and he can't be blamed for making the effort to venture down there. But that's the thing, he has to go there. I agree with those that say he's waisting his breath calling out the smaller fighters whilst beating up 160 pounders. He must go back to being a 154 fighter and corner them into fighting him. Easier said than done, of course.

He will be in May. Too obvious, I'm afraid. Martinez can beat him. Why so against it?

And I completlely agree. Its just these others who make it seem that the best logic choice for Sergio is GGG and that he is ducking him. If none of the "big money fights" materilize there is a rumor, as per Sergio saying it, that he might fight in Argentina in the Monumental Soccer stadium (maybe against his mandatory or a "bum" just to give him more popularity in Argentina) but nothing as of yet. Once he gets back on HBO we will see who HBO has lined up for him, assuming Cotto, Mayweater, Canelo don't want to fight him and the JR rematch aren't happening.

I don't think there's any guarantee at all that Chavez won't be available in May nor that Golovkin will necessarily be more qualified than Geale.

I agree, and I've been saying that the entire time. He has to actually fight at the weight for people to take him seriously. Cause right now, it can and has been brushed off as "the bigger guy calling out the smaller one". If people saw him performing at the weight, there would be more pressure on guys like Cotto, Canelo, etc.

But the fact that he even mentioned a catchweight, when talking about a possible fight w/ Cotto, shows me he's not as confident he can make the weight comfortably like he always says.
