But guys like Kirkland, K-9 and even Lara would generate more revenue than a Golovkin fight possibly could, and frankly all of them are more proven than Golovkin as well.

I'd love Martinez and Golovkin to fight, but saying it's a duck of some sort just seems dense to me.

man I really doubt that. They'd fight if the money is right. They're thinking of going to an impossible weight of 150 to fight Pac or FLoyd

Yes but now that Martinez has agreed, atleast verbally, its up to Chavez Jr to accept the "test". Afterall, Chavez Jr is a known cheater, so the demand is logical. I doubt Chavez Jr will accecpt and he will just move on to fight other MW, not SMW. Then Martinez will need to go to the drawing board again as to see who can generate the most bang for the buck.

All he said was "We'd have to reach an agreement on the weight." Cotto was contemplating fighting N'Jikam at 156 or 157 for the WBO belt earlier this year, so he has at least some interest in becoming a 4 division champion. Martinez already offered to drop to 154 or to defend his belts at 155 against Cotto to no avail.

I'd settle for Geale too. You can't go wrong fighting the highest rated fighters in your division. That is fulfilling the highest requirement asked of a champion. Everything else is subjective.

Catch weight is a catch weight. He shouldn't have said it, no matter what Cotto was "contemplating".

 If Cotto wants a middleweight title, it would have to be at a catchweight because he's clearly not going all the way to 160 and Martinez is conceding that fact. Or they could agree to fight at 154 and he could remain a 3 division titlist. You're really drawing an awful lot from the statement "We'd have to reach an agreement about the weight."

Wow, somehow you just responded to something that wasn't even written. Since when is 154 a catch weight?

The words make sentences, but make no sense.

    Times have changed though.

Martinez was a big name fighter when he fought Barker, but now with the Chavez win hes crossed into superstar, Manny Pacquiao,Floyd tyoe status.

Also, hes a year older, so between these 2 things, he wants the BIG fights.

It's cool. You constantly make excuses for Martinez.

No one is saying he's ducking GGG. But many are saying, that if he doesn't get these fights he's been pining over, and he doesn't get the Chavez Jr. rematch due to whatever circumstances, then wtf is he going to do?

He's going to fight a mandatory for a bit of money and be back at square one anyway.
