Writing a dissertation at the moment, and trying to think of examples of when the crown has cheered on an 'away/foreign' boxer instead of one of their own. Not during or after giving a good account of themselves. But generally where their reputation has proceeded them and they have entered the ring to fanfare and support. Any examples would be apprecuiated. Thanks.
Bute vs Froch? (but only at the weigh-in)...can't think of any, mate... if it didn't happen for Green vs. Jones Jr or for Pascal vs. Hopkins... it's a hard sell. Pascal vs. Diaconu, maybe... although that wasn't a clear case either... both were home fighters and the crowd was devided.
It will only happen on an undercard, where the local fighter isn't well-liked, but is hated for one reason or another. He doesn't have many fans, but people just want him to lose, so they'll cheer for anyone who fights him.
Archie Moore vs. Yvon Durrelle? Archie was up in Canada and that guy was French Canadian, one of my fave fights ever! How about the obvious?.... Ali going to UK to fight? Infact Ali going abroad anywhere ha. I remember Cleverly in the Echo Arena, Liverpool, and everyone wanted Nadjib Mohammedi to do him! haha
Surely Audley Harrison has to have had this happen at some stage, I'm nor sure when.. but he must have.. lol
Tyson vs Francis for sure , everyone knew Julius did't stand a chance and was pulling for Tyson to flatten him .
