Anybody who says any boxer to ever live is leagues above Jones in talent is talking out of their ass. The greatest and most knowledgeable minds in boxing(Including Eddie Futch) publically called Roy one of, if not the, best athlete to ever box. Ever. He was a phenom, and a guy with the experience I have doesn't throw that word around lightly. This talent would give Rocky hell early. So fast, so sharp, so mobile, so brash. He'd dissect Marciano and hit him at will. Alas for Roy, doing this over 15 rounds against a tank is the hardest task in boxing. I have to think that Rocky catches up with him before the final bell and starts to connect as Roy's legs tire. Then, we'd see if Roy can take a big heavyweight shot. My money would be on Rocky Marciano to TKO Roy Jones late, but a controversial decision victory for Jones isn't out of the question, nor is a TKO victory on cuts. Roys gifts are a nightmare to fighters like Rocky.
Archie Moore could KD Marciano in the second round. There is a big possibility Roy knocks him down in the earlier rounds and builds up a very big point difference. After that he only has to survive.
Jones may have superior speed but Moore def. has superior power and size (didn't need roids or weights to reach his weight) I'd also wager Moore was technically better, certainly more crafty and caught Rocky flush coming in with what he described as one of the hardest shots he ever threw. I doubt Jones would knock him down tbh. IMO Jones just doesn't have the style to beat Rocky he'd need to stay on the outside and on his bike to win this fight something he didn't really do, there's also the issue with his chin. Jones would probably be way ahead going into the 6th round but from there on he'd be fighting to survive as Rocky really came on.
Jr would have spent the rest of his days suckin food through a straw...Marciano would murder his ass within 3 rounds, if not sooner
I dunno that Marciano would HIT Roy in three rounds with anything solid. He has to slow Roy down to cope with his speed in any capacity. I think he would, but he'd need time to do so. And it that time, he'd be getting hit. Hard, sharp, and often. Interesting fight, and anybody picking a blowout is blowing smoke, or hero worshipping.
Better Chin, better power, infinitely better resume, reflexes about the same, physically tougher, the only advantage that Jones held over Charles is in terms of style. Jones was a more entertaining fighter to watch.
Jones never even unified title, one of most overated fighters in history. I can't believe what people say about him. talent? he had some, but great--no ****in way.
Faster, more explosive, better mover, I'd argue EASILY better reflexes, and stupid good stamina in his prime. Great? Yes? One doesn't win that many world titles at that many weights without being great. As great as Charles? No. As good an athlete? Better. Jones was in a class of his own as far as talent. His results and his skills don't reach the heights his superhuman body did, but thats a damn high bar, so its hard to hold the latter against him.
M, to compare a prime Roy Jones at 168 pounds against an animal like a sweated down 185 pounds Rocky Marciano, would have been laughed at when Roy was at his zenith...They say" time brings healing ",but it can also bring unreality...Roy Jones had surreal talent in his time, only because he didn't meet as a LH elite, hardbitten LHs as Tunney, Conn, Charles, Moore, Johnson, Lloyd Marshall, Dwight Quai, Foster, etc,who would through toughness, experience and ability worn the fragile chinned talented Jones down, I am convinced...To be cruel to match a Roy Jones at his best, [not heaviest] against a monster, bigger, stronger caveman like a prime Marciano is unfair to Roy...It would be like asking a 147 pound Mayweather to step into the ring against a Dick Tiger...A bridge too far...
I'm HONESTLY surprised but happy nobody has said RJJ by cuts and ref stoppage... Anyways, Rock catches up to RJJ eventually and proceeds to send him back down a few divisions.. never to go up there again till the Rock retires
