I don't know much about Ross, his record looks great, only 4 loses, 2 against ATG fighters and some great wins against Ceferino Garcia, Jimmy McLarnin and Tony Canzoneri as well as lots of reports about his smooth boxing. I also heard he struggled with drug addiction after the army? Anyhow tell me a bit about him and tell me how he does against: Pernell Whitaker Felix Trinidad Shane Mosely Oscar De La Hoya SRL
LUD Whitaker - I think Whitaker will be too fast, will be competative though. WUD - Trinidad bigger and more powerful but Ross is more skilled and had an iron chin will tough it out and outbox Tito for most of the fight. WUD - Mosley will be quite some trouble with his speed and power but Ross is tough and Mosley is far too open. Close fight but my pick would be Ross. LUD - DLH is bigger, faster, more powerful and nearly as skilled, this will also be a close fight but DLH´s combination of size and speed advantage and own skill will be too much. LUD - see DLH just that Leonard is at least a league above DLH, he may even stop him. Nevertheless I rank Ross above allof them but SRL. Just did and achieved more. Top3 I think of as great welterweights, the other three are not really great at that weight. SRL Ross Whitaker Trinidad DLH Mosley
Lose, too small he'd stay at lightweight. If he was big enough he could maybe beat Tito and Mosley, but he'd just be too weak to hold them off
Oh, I see Barney Ross was "too weak " to beat these WWs but have you heard how the gamest fighter ever Ross beat a powerful MW Ceferino Garcia TWICE, and ONCE with a broken hand...Too say Ross at 144 pounds was too small for a 147 welterweight is ludicrous...Barney Ross had 81 bouts, without being stopped or most likely FLOORED,so he was big enough at 144 pounds to fight any 147 pound WW... In a 15 round bout at his best I have him even money against everyone not named Ray Robinson...
DLH, Mosley, Tito would be all about 10-12lbs heavier than Garcia in the ring Burt, they were all 160lb men in the ring 24hour weigh ins are very different to same day weigh ins
He's a bit too small for the modern day welters. Throw him in a time machine into the 90s and he would have a very rough go as they were all great boxers in their own right. Ross vs Mosley, Whitaker and Oscar at lightweight are much better contests IMO
And same day weighin for everybody, Barney Ross also would gain a few pounds...Let's be real. Barney Ross was a terrific boxer tough chinned guy who beat a TOUGH Billy Petrolle, who was every bit as good as Carmen Basillio. beat a terrific right hand puncher Jimmy McLarnin, Tony Canzoneri, the much bigger bolo punching MW champ Ceferino Garcia TWICE, etc. Barney Ross was the real goods, and at 147 ,same day weigh in, he holds his own with anybody, except the best fighter i ever saw ringside SRR.
