TROLL? The guy beat B hop twice. Was beating the **** out of Froch. And had a close fight with Wright. Sergio doesnt beat any of those guys.
Styles make fights, 1st off - and you're splitting hairs when you say "This elite did well against someone, so this other elite who I rate higher would do better..." It isn't like Taylor got outboxed by Sergio Mora or some ****. Very good fighters have been made to look stupid by Winky.
Forget whether SM would beat any of those dudes. LOOK HOW BAD TAYLOR STRUGGLED WITH WRIGHT. He lost in a lot of peoples eyes or should have gotten a draw. SM punched harder than Wright, took just as good a punch as Wright, had better handspeed and power than Wright, and his defense, albeit much different than Wright's, was effective. / replies in this stupid thread.
lol @ people thinking Martinez walks right thought Taylor like he's some scrub. Martinez is constantly open to Taylor's best weapon which is the jab. His head is going to be snapping back all night long. If he tries to exchange with Taylor he runs the chance of getting KO'ed himself seeing that Taylor throws some pretty good combos on the inside. Taylor did expend a lot of nervous energy but he didn't gas out as early as some of ya'll are saying. He really didn't start unraveling into the 8th an 9th rds. Ya'll making him out to be Pascal or some ish. Even then when Taylor got tired he still had some dog in him which made him dig deep and fight back. Martinez would have his hands full in this one. People forget that Sergio gasses too sometimes when he's really pressured so whose to say it won't happen here as well. I see a competitive fight that gets close down the stretch but ends up being a victory for Taylor. Taylor might even drop him as well seeing how sometimes Martinez is off balance or at weird angels when moving. Taylor had the speed and power to make his gameplan more effective than guys like Barker or Macklin
You are proving my point. Styles make fights. SM is a fast, slick, powerful southpaw. IMO, worse matchup for Taylor than Wright was. Hence SM beats him worse.
Taylor was also getting schooled in boxing by Abraham the same guy that got schooled by Froch. Anybody that follows boxing should know that circular logic in boxing does not work. Need to see how styles mesh and Martinez is completely wrong for JT.
You are saying the Taylor that fought AA was a prime JT? Taylor was in survival mode from the beginning in that fight.
Taylor. That hands down stuff would have piled up points for conservative Taylor. I am still not sold on Martinez. He hasn't fought anyone.
That's a tough call, and I think regardless of whoever wins it will be a very close and competitive fight. Surprisingly, I think if one of them were to win by KO it would be Taylor and if one of them were to win by decision it would be Martinez. Taylor certainly had his flaws, but he also had trainloads of talent. He was one of the most explosive fighters in recent history, and regardless of how reckless he could be with his energy, I think his speed and explosiveness have a good chance of catching Sergio jumping in with his hands down. Say what you will about JT having some poor performances against Wright, Spinks, and Ouma, but Sergio has also had his share of lackluster efforts - only his were against Barker and Macklin - two fighters who I believe weren't nearly as good as Wright, Spinks, and Ouma.
Toss up, just depends how it went, this is a fight that could go a lot of different ways. I mean its easy to say "Jermain was trash" and whatever, but that's ******ation talking. Could Martinez eat the shot that almost stopped Pavlik? Could he take the shot that dropped Froch? I take nothing away from Sergio, he's a great champion, but Jermain in his prime fought everybody and went to war with some great fighters...won some, lost some, but either way it would be the most difficult fight of Sergio's career.
Taylor was bothered by Spinks jab ffs. SPINKS! He's a welterweight on his best day atsch Martinez jabs the ish out of him and piles on a corner stoppage like Frochy did.
He also got warned and a point deducted early on bull**** low blows, from AA crying to the ref, which essentially made Jermain 1 deminsional and changed the course of the fight. Not to mention he was trained by a Ozell Nelson who had 0 business training on that level. Furthermore he was a shell of himself by this time.
