At Their Peak's, White America LOVED Roy Jones but Not Bhop, Why?

Probably because Hopkins' fights were boring as **** for the average spectator.

 

In their prime, Hopkins was much more exciting than Jones, who had all the talent in the world to steamroll his opponents but chose to win boring, wide uds. That's why Jones was never a big star. He didn't go after it like SRL. He was contempt with just winning and not putting on a show for the fans.

 

Because Jones stood Hopkins on his head, dominating him with 1 hand? because Jones was several leagues above Hopkins?

Jones like many flamboyant black boxers seemed to have more detractors than fans.

 

Bernard was too "hood" where as Roy was the american who was robbed of gold at olympics - easy fighter to back.

 

RJJ is more of a crowd attraction

 

Did you not read my intro? I already stated this based on the information available, I know he was no PPV star, I was comparing his status in the eyes of white america to Bhop...not his status as a whole in america...read next time.

 

Style wise Roy was immeasurably more entertaining

 

And where did you find out his status in the eyes of "white America?" Did you take a poll?

The reason is obvious.

Borenard Hopkins, spoiled, lacked flair and power.

RJJ, had an exciting style, huge power was an entertainer.

It is that reason and that reason alone.

 

I'm not sure if Jones was ever big box office. Certainly he never had the sort of appeal Ray Leonard did before him or that Oscar De La Hoya did after him.

 

That is the most clueless assessment of that fight I've read in some time.

 

I think u gotta consider the state of the HW divison back then.

When the fantastic four fought each other, the HW Division sucked. Ali was old and shot and there was no spectacular HW after him till Tyson. So the fantastic four got way more attention.

In Roy's Prime the HW division was loaded. Tyson, Bowe, Holy, Lewis, old Foreman etc.

In all honesty I have studied statistics and demography....so I look at populations and who & how transcended their boundaries to become popular...ie. Jordon...

If I look at Bradley & Berto two fighters that don't play the villian don't have large following...So when I look at Roy & Bho bare in mind (I expect "some" blacks people to like them regardless of how good they actually are) The fact Roy looked so accepted when he got off the plane after the olympics...for example...but generally it seemed to me Roy was loved more than Bernard..
