Who wins a 10 round fight between the best version of Sam Peter vs the Ray Mercer who took Lewis into deep waters but lost a close decision?
Peter was never that good Jab. Mercer would UD him. Peter was too damn wild with his punches, and Mercer had a good chin. He'd smother Peter's power and beat him up in close for a UD.
Because of this thread, I just rewatched some Samuel Peter fights. This guy is utterly horrible. He is a C Level fighter at best. I don't even know if he could have beaten Chris Arreloa.
He wouldn't beat Arreola. And just imagine, he's at worst the second best fighter on Vitaly's resume. Im just backing up my Vitaly isn't top 20 thread!
Wow, this thread just proves how ppl overrate the 90s era of hot potato title. For what it's worth..... I'll break down this potential battle of the monster punchers from my having seen them both fight at least 6 times. Jab. Mercer. Mercer had a strong jab and he threw it fairly often. He wasn't Larry Holmes or even Kbret Pulev, but he'd have an edge in the battle of jabs vs Peter. R hand.Peter. Now, Mercer is notorious for having a powerful R hand. But the edge goes to Peter here. Peter's reach>Mercers and Peter led with his R hand better than Mercer. Neither one knew how to sneak that shot, but Peter had the power to move his opponent even when they were covering up and defending well against it. Defense. Tie. Neither Mercer or Peter were afraid to take a punch and their defensive flaws were detrimental to their career successes, though tbf, Peter is only 32 and his career is FAAR from over. Footwork. Mercer. Hard to say Mercer has good footwork, but again, we're talkign about vs Peter. Mercer was decent at cutting off the ring and trapping his guy. Peter was more of a bulldozer, and if they were in a ballet, Mercer would have the edge. Strength. Peter. Just far bigger than Mercer, and far more muscularly built. Power. Tie. Peter is the bigger and stronger guy overall, but Mercer could turn his shots over a bit better. Neither guy couild time anyone at the elite level, but it didnt matter, they were trying to punch through their guy anyways. It's sad the way Peter is treated on this board due to the K2 hate. The guy would be a Mercer/Shavers/ Norton type in any other era. But because he came around during this era of K2 hate, he's basically a clown because well, if you can't beat a Klitschko, your garbage. :-(
Delusional break down at it's best. Does your delusions of Samuel Peter's powers make you sleep better at night? Deep down we both know you know Samuel Peter is utterly ****ing garbage and a C Level fighter.
Also a lot of your 'rose tinted' glasses theory don't work. Your theory is that Oh everyone loves the older era so they will rate it higher? Make a poll that says Prime Lennox Lewis vs Prime Joe Frazier. Frazier is from the 70's golden era yes? Any boxing site will have Lewis winning that poll. Lewis is from the 90's-2003 era. Most boxing experts will easily pick Tyson to knock out Marciano and Dempsey. So once again your theory of 'looking back at older eras' don't work out. People admit 90's Heavyweights will beat the **** out of 20's heavyweights. So there is no rose tinted glasses there.
Go easy Skittlez, chitown is a good guy even if I disagree with him. I'll get back to his post later, but at least he took time to form an argument that makes you think. Not every klit fan deserves scorn. Some have earned their respect on these forums.
