Gloves - different types...

I've done this thread before, but since lost it and also forgotten...

...can anyone briefly talk me through the different makes of fight gloves boxers use and how they influence a boxer.

This is a honest thread, no **** take, please.:good

 

It basically boils down to this;
Guys like Floyd and Hopkins,who like to parry punches wear Grants because they are cushioned and more suited to their style.
Punchers prefer Mexican style gloves i.e Cletos because it's generally assumed they're more suited for power.
You can go into more depth but that's the long and short of it.

What are everlast gloves more suited to?

Everlast are quite tight fitting gloves and if you have larger hands its not your wisest choice of fight glove.. quite restricting.. The mexican gloves ie MM Las Dos (manuel Moreno) not made anymore were the business, they were not that dissimilar to the patern made by Grant Philips, Comfortable and very safety conscious .. Winning are the Lexus of gloves, Expensive and luxury.. soft inner and good for defensive minded fighters , quite a good size to block and parry .... Todays Mexican gloves Reyes are like the old Casanova gloves, good to make a tight fist in and shape wise solid for the punchers hand.. not too extra padded around the fist.. Other nice options i like are Rival.. Good for training gloves, a very hard wearing glove similar in feel to Everlast, Twins are a tight fitting asian made glove synonimous with thai Boxing and kick boxing, a fab glove or the price... In the UK i do like the Lamarr glove , a cheaper and as good shape as Reyes imo... Hope a few options here... God Bless...

Also, some aging fighters like Vitali choose the brand of glove that has a sharp edge on the thumb, so as to have the best chance of opening a cut on their opponents' face and then getting a paid-off ring doctor to stop the fight.

So you don't want to use expensive Cletos for the heavy bag.

But you also don't want to go cheap and get a glove with very little protection . Injuries will come from hitting the bag with a bad glove ; example everlast big 5.

 

Like Bigcat said,Rivals are real up n comers.I got a pair not long ago and they're the best bag gloves I've had.Excellent velcro hook and loop as well.

RB1's.Only £60 but more than worth it.

 

Thinking about getting some Rivals for my bag work. They look killer, and I've been hearing good things about them.
