Wilfred Benitez vs Buddy McGirt

Nice question, it depends on which Benetiz shows up more than on Buddy.

Benitez beats him much like he did the very similar Harold Weston (the second time.)

 

Benitez was a different level than McGirt. McGirt was overrated as a fighter, however he is a great trainer.

 

If Bruce Curry should have / did beat Wilfred, then a bigger, technical very sound McGirt would do it.

(Wilfred after the fight would use the SRL line, "I thought I was fighting myself")

(Until McGirt hurt his arm....he was thought as on par with Whitaker).

 

Benitez was several classes above Buddy.

 

Actually, McGirt was better as a fighter than as a trainer.

He's a garbage trainer for the most part.

He was a very good technician as a fighter. However, not in El Radar's league.

 

To dominate McGirt you've got to have a really high work rate, good chin and good skills as well. I don't think Wilfred pushes a high enough workrate unless forced to, so I see this as being close and competitive.

Benitez of the Leonard fight and McGirt of the Brown fight would be a great technical fight, and very close.

I think Buddy had better defense than Ray Leonard, which would make it interesting, but his offense is not on Ray's level.

BTW, it'll be sad if McGirt gets remembered as a trainer more than being a fighter. He was an excellent fighter.

He'd beat the current so called no.1 p4p if he was around in his prime today.

 

Benitez beat Mcguirt in like a 9-6 score, in rounds.

 

Benitez by UD in a much closer fight than people expect.

 

totally overrated fighter. Lost to Frankie ****** who then wore out and McGirt beat him. McGirt talked a good talk with Meldrick and fought a few seconds in round one and then Meldrick beat him up the rest of the fight with speed. When McGirt lost which he usually did against the better guys he used the rotator cuff excuse. He is not in Benitez class no way. Benitez outclassed Duran and went 15 with Leonard and Hearns and beat Cervantes. Youngest champion ever if I am not mistaken.

 

The only people who overrate McGirt as a fighter are Pernell Whitaker fans and its pretty transparent that they do that to boost Pea's two wins over McGirt.

 

I don't see McGirt as great or near great. Whitaker was. Meldrick Taylor was hof but I am not sure great, and he outclassed McGirt. Completely took him apart the same way he took apart John Meekins. After that McGirt did his usual left rotator cuff excuse.
