How important is muscles/ weight lifting in boxing ? There has to be some sorta middle ground of muscle mass and strength for boxing. You can't be a weakling and expect to fight at an elite level. But also when you get too muscle bound you get slow and have poor stanima. Look at John Mcdermott vs Pele Reid for the English HW title. Pele has big muscles and is really ripped, Mcdermott destroyed him in the 2nd round. Reid almost went into the crowd and then spit out his mouth peice to buy time. But I will admit that Pele Reid has a glass chin, he gets knocked out all the time. I'll give you that. Tyson Fury has a way better chin than Pele Reid, Larry O, or Danny Williams. And probably David Price :deal
Slim, toned core. Strong and conditioned lats. Slim arms. Strong shoulders. Strong and conditioned thighs and calves (not necessarily big). This is what I would say, however, everyone has a different build (Ectomorph, Mesomorph and endomorph). Deadlifts, squats, row, shoulders are some of the weight exercises boxers should be doing. This is along with their explosive work and their bodyweight work.
Deadlifts and squats are very harsh on the back. Being a pro fighter the last thing you want imo is to injure yourself because you are deadlifting heavy ass weight.
According to the Arc of Boxing a boxer should resemble a collegiate wrestler or a gymnast i think that is about accurate
I didn't say heavy weights, not every weight has to be heavy. A lot of injuries are caused by bad technique. Take a look at Fury's deadlift video that was posted on here a few weeks back, that is an example of how not to deadlift.
I disagree, Tyson Fury is good at deadlifting. It just looks awkward on account of him being so tall. Expect Fury to be a future HW champion of the World
I think having too much muscles will instead be a detriment to a fighter. It will affect stamina due to oxygen needed by a lot of muscles so breathing would be much heavier as the fight goes on. Plus, having too much muscles affects flexibility. So basically, toned down.
Disagree all you like, but his technique was poor. If he carries on like that, he may suffer an injury.
Look I know whats going on. I know you are just trying to say that to provoke me. Because you know that I am a Tyson Fury fan and you are a hater. I know that Tyson Fury can deadlift alot of weight
I think Pacquiao at Light Welter-ish had a great physique, looked very well even (if not a bit leg heavy).. I think balance is most important. Guys like Tye Fields obviously suffer from their muscle, as does Butterbean from his fat.
its hard as there's been a range. i think as well proportioned as can be to alow for good outside and inside fighting. Something like holyfield at cruiser. lennox at heavy,
