Definitely Manfredo, can't agree with the Mitchell stoppage though.

probably as he could have fought more outside the UK! should have given Robin Reid a re-match but didnt but was happy to give Mario Veit a rematch (obviously earned by his thrilling 1 round TKO loss).

Veit earned both shots at Calzaghe. He was undefeated in 30 or so fights when he first fought him and had gone fifteen fight unbeaten streak when he fought him the second time. In that 15 run unbeaten streak between fights Veit beat Kabary Salem and Charles Brewer - both former World Super Middleweight Champions - Malik Dziarra - the IBF Intercontinental Super Middlewieght Champion - Ramon Arturo Britez - a Champion of the South American region - Lolenga Mock and Jose Mario Guerrero - European Champions - and Antonio Brancalion and Siarhei Karanevich - nation champions - which was more than enough to qualify him for another shot at a world champion.

Please also point out that reid didnt want to fight Calzaghe when he was the champ , then only fought him after losing his belt , as for Veit that was a mandatory defence which was earned by Veit with 13 fight winning streak, and the fight was in germany

If you got your hands on some old boxing magazines; Ring, KO etc. and read the articles you would see that a large percentage of boxing writers never wrote positive thing about a caucasian fight. I suppose it would be racist to do so. You can try analyzing the good points of a caucasian boxer on this site and invariably somebody will deem you a "racist" too. But back to my original assertion, it's mainly because he is white.

Veit went 30-0 by fighting 4, 6 and 8 rounders against the lowest level journeymen his promoter could find. He had only fought one 12 rounder before the Calzaghe fight and that was against some nobody. Anyone who is any good and has genuine ambitions of mixing it at World level stops fighting these type of opponents after just a few fights, Veit on the other hand made a career of it because people are gullible and easily drawn in by a unbeaten record.

Correct. Funny how this never gets mentioned by the Calzaghe fanboy brigade on here.

I remember the Mger Mkrtchyan fight (another weak opponent), it was supposed to Joe's farewell fight at Super Middle Weight before he stepped up to Light Heavy and took on the divisions top boys.

Obviously that didn't happen and Calzaghe opted to make another defence of his WBO belt instead, this time against the legendary Kabary Salem in what was a terrible fight. The public had finally lost ther patience and were no longer tuning in in decent numbers, then he rematched Veit which was the final straw and Sky sent him packing.

    Quite right.

There's a bit more info in the video below.

    http://youtu.be/8KsIAKnvJBQ

Everyone wanted to see him step up and fight the likes of Tarver. Joe had said that he wanted big money fights, and the step up in weight wouldn't be a problem, and he could take his speed up with him, and it would be easier to make weight. When reporters asked him about a potential fight with someone like Tarver, he replied by saying that he wasn't interested in Tarver, because he didn't rate him. He said, "All Tarver has ever done, is beat a shot Roy Jones."

That statement was hilarious on two accounts.

    1. After he'd dismissed Tarver as an opponent, he went on to fight Salem, Veit and Ashira.

    2. He ended up fighting Roy himself, four years later.

    Regards, Loudon.

The Mitchell stoppage was fine. Terry O'Connor saved Peter Manfredo Jr from a concussive beating that would have resulted in further brain damage.

I can't believe how much attention Joe Cal gets on ESB. Far more than was ever printed about him during his career.

Here's the deal, neither guy fought a ton of great competition. Roy physically dominated his opponents in a way that few men have ever done. Joe's "knockouts" compose three videos of dubious stoppages.

So, if both guys have limited competition, go with the eyeball test.

Jones doesn't get a pass. I see people on here all the time bitching about his reluctance to take on the biggest challenges.
