    Ha!

And why would Toney and Roy have ever needed to fight outside the U.S.?

They were American, and all the big fights were in America. Roy fought on HBO and was the best fighter on the planet when prime.

Boxing is run by the big promotors, tv networks, and the PPV.

Any fighter that's not from the U.S. eventually will either fight there, or live there, or do both.

    Regards, Loudon.

In that list I would include Calzaghe (#1), Jones, Ward, Kessler, Benn, Eubank...don't know who else.

  3. And if Toney and Jones had come to fight the best in EUROPE/World they would of been bigger PPV numbers in the states and Europe. And why?? because they would of been fighting the best in the world NOT just the best in the USA

    Calzaghe
    Ward
    Jones

My top three in that order... The rest I have trouble ranking who was better between them... Solid sure top three though..

But the best on HBO pay per view were considered the best in the world... and still are for the most part.

Funny people act like HBO doesn't recognize European fighters.

HBO ppv is the world stage... End of story.

All boxers know that fighting on HBO PPV is a huge accomplishment... Fans arguing it is ridiculous.

But the best fighters in the world (apart from the odd exception) have always fought in the USA. Who could have paid Roy to come over to Europe when he was prime? Nobody!

No European promotors, or tv network could have done it.

    Regards, Loudon.

  8. You are right IS.. That is now. Back in the early 90s it was Heavy weights doing the PPV not other weights. Now it is the Mid weights doing the PPV for example the Calazaghe Jones fight did approx 190,000 in 2008
So yes Benn and Eubank were getting the better pay fighting at home and so would of jones and Hopkins etc had they traveled.
You seem to forget that then and now are very different

I understand where you're coming from, but Roy had a deal with HBO. He broke the record for the number of appearances. Someone like Frank W, could never have brought Toney or Roy, over to Britain in the 90's.

He managed to pull it off with Tyson, but they were against no name fighters, that nobody outside of the U.K. were really bothered about. Mike at that point, was just happy to fight anyone for a payday.

There was only really Benn that was known to American fans in the 90's. Eubank, and especially Calzaghe weren't known to casual American fans.

    Regards, Loudon.

  10. Prime??? in the early 90s?? nor was he the best at SMW then. Remember when McCellan came over 17million watched it and close to 11,000 at ringside. Again PPV was a HW thing back then. And yes back then money would of been available for a Jones Hopkins or Toney to come over and fight here in the UK. Chisora and Haye filled out 30,000 at West Ham and they are nothing special. And Jones Calazaghe did under 200,000 buys in 2008.

but i thought that jones was considered the very best in the world? how could he be if he wasn't a PPV fighter? that goes against what you're saying here.

they offered jones big money to go to the uk though. so don't try and make out that they couldn't put the money up, because they could. and did.

the money was there. that's a fact. they just like to talk **** and make all the excuses in the world. typical americans. always the cowards. look at the big fight not happening now... yeah, you guessed it. it's because an american is involved that it isn't happening. their excuses don't work for that because pac fights out of america and he still can't get that ***** in the ring.
