I would have gone for A Flame of Pure Fire for Dempsey. Nice to see Hauser elect to include Ghosts of Manilla inspite of their supposed opposition to one another, it is indeed a classic. Mee's book on Liston and Ali wouldn't have made it onto my list.

You didn't make it in Clay? That's bull****. Both your books are better than 90% of what's on that list.

A bit heavy on Ali, but a good resource. I think I've read about a third of those. I would also put Pollack's Jeffries book in there and Clay's Langford book.

I really need that Longest Fight. Think I'll pick it up today.

You can understsand his picking only one Pollack though. You could toss a coin for me whether it should be Fitz or Jeffries and Fitz's story is probably the more amazing.

Hah, thanks. Many really good books on the list though. Maybe it would be fun to try and come up with my own list one day, or a few of them by decade. Tough to avoid leaving out some worthy titles though when you might not have read them all.

I thought "Sweet William," the Billy Conn biopic, was excellent, and should be mentioned.

The Marciano book mentioned there was superb, and I have "A Flame of Pure Fire" waiting as soon as I finish this other thing I'm reading......

Clay, you should write a list of more obscure books, at least, seeing as you have a library of boxing books, with many most of us have never heard of.

I'll try and do that. Some of them aren't easy to find but others are not that difficult. There really are a number of terrific books that aren't all that well known, at least in my opinion.

If I had to choose an number one favourite,it would be 'McIlvanney On Boxing' by Hugh McIlvanney.
