Hi Anglo, quality posts as always mate

As you're an experienced and professional body builder, I'm not saying you've ever used them, but you must know a lot about steroids? How much of an effect would you say they had on Jones' career?

    Ty KO,

I do indeed know a lot about them, I have never taken any, but as I was offered them, the temptation was there, but I decided to do a lot of research, in doing so, I can say that it made Rjj's career.

He was able to jump up to HW and back down again, without really effecting his body in the way say a Bob Fitzsimmons made it. It is a grossly unfair advantage, but, he did have to put the work into it However, this isn't bodybuilding, people judge a legacy from what you did, and Rjj's legacy was enhanced due to his weight class chamopionships, which without PED's,, he would never have won, even in facing the hopeless Ruiz.

Jumping up in weight was very easy on steroids, so coming back down to his natural weight means he would have had no issues within his body, just his natural levels all re-balancing and adapting quickly and fluidly.

The jump in weight to LHW on Joe, who campaigned at SMW for so long would have been a massive shock to his body, he should be credited immensely for taking on these naturally bigger men.

Ward is king. The reign will be for a long time. All is well in the world.

    Thanks for the reply

Yeah it's questionable that Jones could have been a former MW, then grow into a large LHW and become a HW, without some kind of enhancers? Also, I wonder how much they helped his performances, he was an freak of nature.

I didn't realise going up and down in weight was that much easier on steroids, I wonder if Jones was still using in 2003?

As for Calzaghe, it's true, Hopkins started his career as within the Cruiserweight limit, and Jones had been up to HW and had been at LHW for years, Joe on the other hand had only fought down at SMW

By the way, how do you think Saint George Groves would do against Ward?

Didn't Calzaghe win his 1st ABA title as a welterweight KOA?

Roy was 39, Calzaghe was just about to turn 37 not exactly a young man himself.

Nobody has shown me the slightest bit of evidence either that he ducked Tarver.

I've not been on here long but you seem to be one of the more clued up posters. The whole Tarver/Johnson/Tarver era was a joke to boxing the worst light heavyweight era in the history of the game. After Jones got caught juicing he never fought a top opponent again untill he fought Calzaghe. If Jones dared to be great, he would have beat the man at 175 - DM, and dared to fight Calzaghe sooner but he was more concerned with picking up easy bucks from his frustrated HBO paymasters.

BTW it wasn't just Boone that beat Ward, Bika also has a very good claim for doing that, and if it was the olden days with 15 round fights then the mechanical, plodding Froch would have also beat Ward as he was clearly gassing in the latter stages.

I'm sure I remember reading that Calzaghe won the ABA title at 3 different weights in 3 successive years, the man was an out and out winner from the very start. If he had represented GB in the Olympics instead of Robin Reid, he would have been a cert for gold, although Reid did well to win a bronze.

Calzaghe had a fantastic style for the amateurs as well in my opinion. The man was an out and out winner, and that mental toughness gets underrated on here

Ward has a far better amatuer pedigree and an olympic gold medal.

Calzaghe as of now has the better resume at 168... Head to head I'd favour him over Ward but in a close decision. If they fought three times then its highly probably they would contest a close fight each time. Each fighter presents a stylictic nightmare for the other, so a trilogy would likely be just in Joe's favour or called inconclusive by the majority of fans. That said, Ward will surpass Calzaghe's acheivments both at 168 and 175. He simply has time on his side, and enough talent around these divisions to bolster his resume beyond Joe's. AND he could retire going from 168 - 175 undefeated in the coming 4-5 years. IF he does this, he will far surpass anything Joe has done and will be looked more favourably as an aTG... The only people who think otherwise are dumb fanboys and biased brits. and im welsh, and a calzaghe fan!

So Calzaghe > Ward H2H (closely)
    but Ward > Calzaghe RESUME
