28 is closer to prime than over 40 ..And so what if Mercado dropped him what KD’s can’t happen in boxing yet you want to criticise what is available at your finger tips ..Pascal also dropped Hopkins I guess he was a much better version than the one Jones fought .

Joe didn’t beat a bad Hopkins but he wasn’t a prime one he did and that is fact !

Hopkins is only 100 times better when its in a Calzaghe debate ..But truth be told he wasn’t that much better considering his age and the opponents he fought ..

    Ha!

Most of your posts are embarrassing! If you want a serious debate with me, I'll oblige you.

Here's a fact for you to chew on.

When Roy was anywhere near his prime, Joe was a nobody outside of the U.K.

To guys like Roy, in 2002, Joe was irrelevant.

He fought in Europe in one of the weakest divisions in boxing, and he held the WBO belt that was worth a packet of peanuts. Nobody respected it, and The Ring magazine didn't even have ratings for it.

Joe was a nobody until Lacy in 2006. But by that time, Roy was already done.

Their paths never crossed, because when Roy was considered the best fighter in the world, Joe was fighting the likes of Woodhall, Veit, pudwell, McIntyre and Thornberry etc.

    Regards, Loudon.

Weak excuse. Joe landed 224 power shots out of 623.

Altitude was a significant (and often overlooked) factor in the first Hopkins-Mercado fight - probably the 90s equivalent of McGuigan-Cruz in terms of the climate/location evening out what should have been a massive difference in class.

Hopkins struggled with the altitude in Denver, never mind Quito, and his ability to cope with that was a major concern in the camp in the build up to Mercado. Altitude affects athletes in different ways and some more than others, but the track distance events at the 68 Olympics and the recent FIFA controversy are examples of the unfair advantage it can provide those acclimitised to it.

You'd probably expect Hopkins to have still beaten Mercado, but it was a real gut-check to get through it in one piece, and he showed the gulf in class in the rematch.

Hopkins clearly improved as a fighter after winning his first title, but anyone suggesting that he was a green mediocrity around that time is being either disingenuous or ******ed.

why did you choose words so befitting to describe your own post?

collins was on the comeback trail hoping to face Jones et all in 1999 till he collapsed.

'Collins was due to contest a non-title bout on the supporting bill to Joe Calzaghe's World Boxing Organisation super-middleweight defence against Rick Thornberry in Cardiff on 5 June. He had then lined up an autumn meeting with the Welshman in an attempt to regain the world title, with the promise of fight against the World Boxing Council light-heavyweight champion, Roy Jones, if he won' - quote fom the Guardian.

assasin, advice - never talk about something you know nothing about.

To the best of my knowledge, Jones isn't on record asking for the crown jewels to fight Joe Cal, it was the other way around.

Oh sorry I offended you mate, why dont you insert the name of an UNKNOWN boxer beating up an UNKNOWN fortysomething without mocking them, so that no one understands the comparison. Yeah that would be smart, though my point would still stand.

    you cret/

Jones wasn't a 40something for a start and was active and on a winning run going into the fight. There were a huge list of famous boxers who tipped Jones to win this fight including Hopkins, Tarver, Johnson, and Lewis.

Jones fought well for the 1st 3 rounds knocking Calzaghe down in the process, where as Ali barely barely managed to throw a punch the whole fight and was beyond shot, where as even after the calzaghe fight jones went to produce two outstanding performances against Sheika and Lacy.

I've not been here long, but long enough to realise that you are nothing but a hater. I have zero respect for your opinion, you are clearly agenda driven in everything you type.

  11. GURU, ignore BerolPee. He's a troll. He pretends he is a medical student, but was pwned by Anglosaxon when asked to provide proof. What sort of medical student spends all day and night on an internet message board slagging a boxer?:oops::patsch

The irrefutable reality is that BerolPee is a soap-dodging layabout.:-(

Evening pal, thanks for your comments, I suspected he was nothing but a troll, I was starting to think that Joe Calzaghe had spitroasted his mother with Enzo Calzaghe such was the hate in his posts.

BTW I noticed that you called him Berol, how fitting :rofl

you refered to someone beating a fortysomething in your initial post, who were you refering too?

The point is you were refering to jones v calzaghe as being like ali v holmes which is farcial.

also why just quote a tiny segment of my post and ignore the rest of it?

you are a truely awful poster :rofl
