In these kinda' fights I let the fighter wear whatever they worse in their own era.

Roy's reflexive defensive work would not be out of place in Tunney's era. He imagined he would've just stepped off or spun out instead of, essentially clowning, with his ear muffs on to let his man have a go at him.

I think the old OLD timers would be best suited to dealing with Jones in fact. Relying on timing and accuracy, they might well have the kind of cultured eye needed to find the openings on Roy.

Not that far back but Mike Spinks has all the tools needed to beat Roy IMO, an he'd need his usual couple of rounds to look at Jones as well but after a while, Roy might find Spinks an awkward customer and Mike has two dynamic options at his disposal to catch Roy out with. Spinks' length, timing, power and ring smarts will cause Jones to make mistakes IMO. Mike has the chin and size to take Roy's offence, so Jones will be dragged into a thinking Man's game. Playing punch picking with Mike Spinks is a horrible idea for most around that weight IMO, he had such a fast release on his punches that he'd be the perfect man to throw Jones' radar off.

And Mike wasn't slow either. He'd win, I'm sure of it.

The versions of Louis that fought Schmelling 1, Conn and Walcott 1 loses by a wide decision. The younger version if properly prepared would KO Jones IF he caught up to him. The version who faced Braddock is probably best to chase Jones down, still Louis was knocked down by a LHW in that fight too

in these fantasy matchups, does roy ever get to fight anyone his own size? it seems like everyday another jones vs heavy thread is posted and then the GOP of the classic board gets to **** all over jones saying he'd get ko'ed by the first punch and how he'd be murdered.

louis would be the favorite but in seeing how conn was winning through 12, you'd have to give roy a chance here. his speed and skill could give louis problems. i know some are going crazy that i just compared conn to jones but there's a lot of ****ing idiots on these boards.

jones, at his best, was a very special fighter. i think at least he could have been a member of the bum of the month club.

Why does everyone make such a joke ? Conn gave Louis hell as did Pastor and of course Walcott ... Jones is a pest till he gets caught or simply runs for his life all fight and loses a decision ... he would still possibly have some interesting moments till he didn't ..

1)yup, and if he was put against fighters 175 and under half as much, we'd see very different result. except for those that feel that tommy ryan knocks him out cold

2)i love conn and LOVE his performance against louis. i would put jones in his tier/league, at least in terms of skills. based on what we've seen on film, who can honestly say conn is light years better?

With all due respect, you got that the wrong way round. Planning a death holds a far bigger punishment than implementing a plan in a legal sport.

Jones roided up or not, is meeting a very special fighter, not John Ruiz, I cannot see how he wins in a 'fair fight'.

So light-hitting middleweight Billy Conn can give Louis hell for 13 rounds but Roy Jones doesn't stand a chance, huh? Most people on here understand nothing about styles. If Conn hit as hard as Jones, he would have knocked Louis out.

conn had a couple of likely advantages over jones: footwork, adaptability and chin (who knows though cause jones was rarely hit clean)

jones has a couple of likely advantages over conn: hand speed, power, committment to defense (if conn committed to avoiding punches, he'd have been heavyweight champ)

which of these matter most against louis. conn's mobility kept him in and out of louis' range exactly as he wanted, his hand speed enabled him to begin and end combinations and exchanges. jones mobility was solid, solid enough i see him avoiding louis for the most part. jones' hand speed was notably superior to conn and if he committs to combination punching (a rarity for him at 175) then the difference will be that much more stark

conn could adapt between and during fights and made subtle but effective adjustments against louis. jones never really adjusted until the tarver fight so i don't see him changing his gameplan effectively if plan A isn't working.

conn took a LOT of flush shots before louis put him down. I just don't see roy taking the same. however, conn took those shots because he abandoned his gameplan and felt offense was his defense; jones would not make that mistake. in the similar position, jones would do his best to make sure the chin issue never came into play and would be on lead right hand, safety first mode once he gained an advantage on the scorecards.

if jones fought the same louis that conn did, it's feasible he could sneak away a decision over 12 rounds....but over 15 i see louis stalking him down. make no mistake, i feel roy will be leading on the scorecards with a knockdown for good measure. but in the championship rounds, that jab will finally be timed and catch roy coming in again and again. louis will start following up with the right hand and eventually, jones will be stopped.

That's the point. Roy is NOT a 'natural' middleweight, nor light heavy. I don't think he'd ever have made 160 with same day weigh in's.

Pointing out the fact the man had murdered someone is "harsh and uncalled for?" :huh Sorry if I don't share your sympathies.
