If today's HW division is so terrible, then why didn't Rahman win?

Prime Lewis would have defeated anyone...
    Bad example.

NEWSFLASH; Believe it or not the "super skilled" heavyweights of the past would do the same thing and even launch themselves out of the ring. This **** is nothing new.

I will even add some further thoughts; "masterful boxers" Chris Byrd and James Toney made their giant "unskilled" boxers look totally inept when they fought them...NOT. Byrd was supposedly going to make Klitschko miss all night long; it didn't turn out that way. Toney was going to box circles around the crude slugger Sam Peter. That didn't happen as prophesized either. If Klitschko and Peter beat their "technically superior" opponents it goes to show how they were underestimated by several boxing writers and boxing fans. I guess the professional writers got Klitschko confused with Primo Carnera or Buddy Baer. If the heavyweights were that bad, they really would have been exposed as frauds by Byrd and Toney. Although certain people's selective memories will keep them from remembering their comments and analysis of Klitschko-Byrd, Peter-Toney that they made before the respective fights and compare their predictions against what actually happend.

Just something extra to think about; the "knowledgeable" boxing fans can't differentiate between an unskilled fighter and a fighter with an awkward style.

is this a serious thread? rahman whether it be due to headbutts from holyfied in 2002 or maskaev or lewis or poor lifestyle has neurological damage (above and beyond what some other 39 year old fighters may have). also, rock's brief prime was nearly 2000 anyway - he's barely a 90's hw. rahman was limited even at his best (hence why he struggled with a 40 year old holyfield). rahman cannot hang with any descent young hw in his present form. also, povetkin is a good hw who could have been relevant in other eras (to varying degrees). unfortunately in the present watered down hw division with ridiculous sanctioning bodies, he is permitted to hide out as a belt holder fighting c level (and worse) guys

36 year old Vladimir Klitschko successfully defended his title vs David Haye, an accomplished amateur and professional champion whereas a 36 year old Ali lost his title defense to Leon Spinks, an olympic gold medalist true enough, but only had 8 professional fights under his belt. Also, Pete Rademacher fought for the heavyweight title in his very FIRST professional fight. That doesn't make me think the heavyweight division was better at those respective times.

it seems to me that having parkinson-stricken champ winning championship fights is an indicator of much worse division than shot contender getting dispatched in 2 rounds.

You realize how ****ing stupid you are?

You just compared Rahman to George Foreman.

Even for a troll thread, this is ****ing stupid.

The division now is the best it has been since the mid to early 1970's.

Or you could look at the other side of the coin and say it just proves how great Ali was compared to today's schleps. Its not like quitting while ahead or using a toe excuse, is it?

Foreman wasn't shot? Is that why he needed a miserable 12 round robbery against nobody Axl Schulz, a guy who was demolished by a 22 year old Wlad Klitschko?

Foreman was beyond shot. What helped him was that Moorer was a glass-chinned joke at HW.

Hey I'm curious? Are you a Wladimir fan? It always annoys me when Wlad fans use the words 'glass chin or glass jaw' when Wlad have been down like 15 times in his career.

quote from 1994: "And so the heavyweight boxing division is in a time warp, not to mention a shambles, not to mention a state of incredulity. George Foreman, old, fat and immobile, won two-thirds of the available titles Saturday night."
