Not bad list but there is no way to place an order as styles make fights ... I'd pick Langford over Marciano or Dempsey but maybe not Charles or Tunney ... I'd add Schmeling to the list over Moore , Conn, Patterson and Jones ...
Apologies, was genuinely meant to be 1906 as you'll see about my comments on his victory over Langford. On second thoughts though it was a pretty unrevised choice.

Well Jones is quite clearly one of the most skilled in filmed history. Anyone with eyes can see it. I'm not gonna pick someone to win a fight based on a paper record, I need to be able to see them first. I've not seen sam as a lhw so i've no idea who i'd pick him against.
Thanks Webianno, I disagree with many posters in that I believe the sport up until the 40s was still developing When they fought Johnson was 185lbs, Langford 155lbs. Some discard the win for Johnson on this basis. Johnson himself said he was at his peak later against Jeffries. It is likely Johnson was very very formidable in his pre-title years Now many rate Langford very highly in this LHW come cruser bracket but in reality Johnson weighing anywhere from 160-185 was more dominant as a coloured champion than Langford was. Greb I think it's likely he was a master boxer but also had quick hands and a high workrate. Was the version of Tunney he beat as good as Tunney became to beat Dempsey? We know Tunney got stonger but did he get more skilled. I suspect so Seems likely Johnson had to knock out his man to win and in reality got the better of the bout

PowerPuncher, nice list. Who gives Roy Jones the most problems on your list? I like the inclusion of David Haye Shoot, Holyfield does qualify by my criteria. I would probably place him at # 2 on my list.
Didn't he get defeated by Jack Johnson way past prime after a long lay off? Would he have been able to defeat Johnson if he was in his prime? Just checked, the fighter I was talking about is James J. Jeffries. For World [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavyweight"]Heavyweight[/ame] title. Reportedly the first time a venue was constructed specifically for one boxing show. Jeffries had to lose 100 pounds in order to get in shape for the fight. TKO in round 15...
Only the white ones, anyway. The moment a black guy walks in, he needs to change his color lined diapers. My list: 1. Marciano 2. Charles 3. Langford 4. Dempsey The rest.
Haye is a tricky one, i'd have no problems picking him against most people listed here, does he qualify though?
