Yeah he realised that the best thing to do was wait until he'd been out of the ring for almost 3 years and well past his own peak too.Add to that he fought at Hagler's weight when he'd never been at the weight himself.

Yup.Classic bullying victimisation. You can totally see the logic.

A far more balanced way of putting it:good.Only thing I would add is that there seems to be a theme of people forgetting that Ray was already coming off poor performances and a 2 and a half year lay off.Someone who didn't know would see this thread and think Ray pulled off some sort of stroke.Hagler was a big favourite going in,and rightfully so.

This out of the ring stuff is lies he already took part in a number of behind closed doors fights, none sparring. He also lost this fight if you score a pro fight like a pro fight and not like an amateur one. SRL was scared of Hagler and we all know it. How many SRL fights were scored like amateur ones, loads he lost more fights than are acknowledged. I mean this was a buy out of the refs same with the second Hearns fight.

No you know it.So you're saying that his sparring was actually unlicensed competitive boxing?
Clearly a Leonard hater with no sense of perspective or reason. Why don't you pull out the old "he ducked Pryor" chestnut as well?

Why don't you blame him for Aids as well while you're at it? 9/11?

Your trolling fails you epically. Take of your SRL tinted glasses its clear he ducked Hagler to say he didn't makes you look even more stupid than you are already perceived.

Yes he did fight behind doors its well documented. Even his fans are making excuses for him now pfft what ever next. SRL would beat Ali if he went to Heavy weight?

I never said he NEVER ducked him.Show me where I did?:huh
I said he wasn't scared of him.Big big difference. And I am only perceived as stupid by you, which is quite comforting.
Read my posts you silly girl.Check out my reply to MAG's post then come back and apologise.

And I saw the article about the "secret" fights, but I also read that they were 6 round sparring sessions and the penalties for unofficial fights would have been quite severe. The assertion that they were "fights" is only an opinion.

How isn't it a fight? Regardless sparring is a form of fighting...

Now you're being pedantic.I've acknowledged that he had much harder then average sparring, but that doesn't mean he had "behind closed door fights"(and I may be paraphrasing,so don't get mad if I haven't accurately quoted you)
You're inferring that he had competitive fights,I'm saying that's not quite true. You're saying I said he never ducked Hagler,I didn't.You also said he was scared of Hagler,I'm saying he would never have stepped in the ring and beat him if he was.

I find it sad that as a Leonard fan,I'm also a big fan of the other 3 Kings, and I never feel the need to disparage them, but there seems to be a number of fans of the others who despise Leonard with a passion, and seem be utterly derisory towards him.

LOL What a fool you are, to see that Hagler wasn't at his best for various reasons, yet deny this could ever happen to Duran, when it was far more evident.

Leonard said after seeing Hagler struggle with Mugabi, that it was the right time to now fight Hagler.

The whole Leonard and Hagler saga reminds me of Pac and Mayweather.

Hagler's own perspective on the situation:

'HAGLER: With the Pacquiao and Mayweather fight, I think that Mayweather might be a little scared. But then there’s another thing, and he’s almost looking like a Sugar Ray Leonard in the type of sense where he is dictating all of the time. Hello! If you’re going to fight, let’s fight! Let’s stop all this stuff. Let’s just get it on! I mean that is what boxing is about. So he’s trying to gain more money or whatever. I mean you already made enough money. Do you want to fight the guy? Yes or no? And I think that Pacquiao is saying, ‘Come on! Let’s do it today’. But I wouldn’t wait around for Mayweather. I would take another fight and still make as much money as I can and then leave the game while I’m still on top.

Ray just ran around in a big ring. Hagler fought the fight under Ray's rules. It is always that way. SRL was like a Floyd type character with less ducking.

Leonard had everything going for him in boxing.

    And about SRL's ducking.

People said SRL didn't really duck Pryor at 140. SRL has ducked opponents previously to the Hagler fight.
