Aggressive start from Spence. Head clash! atsch Bad one. Matthews is slapping hooks and wide rights from the outside, keeping Spence tumbling to either side and off balance. Spence is still plugging away, determined, trying to walk Matthews down and drill the body but unable to get a bead on him. Solid right hand by Matthews. Spirited attacks by Spence, firing hard rights over the top and sweeping out with his hook but getting countered by short popping 1-2's and pimp-smacks from Matthews.

Round 3

Matthews lands a big left hook, and steps back to set up a big straight right to the grill. Spence is walking into shots, trying to hurtle inside and land his own hail Mary pass. Matthews shrugs Spence off and out of a leaning clinch. Jab and uppercut combos by Matthews, spinning Spence headfirst into a turnbuckle. BIG RIGHT HAND BY MATTHEWS!! Clubbing shots by Matthews, getting sloppy as Spence's balance looks shaky for a moment. Spence bows down and grinds himself into Matthews, shoulder first. Matthews covers up and steps back, jabbing and throwing crosses between the eyes of Spence. BIG right hand by Matthews while slashing his way inside once more. Spence digs to the body, hard shots to the hips and lower back, spraying leather. Spence brings it upstairs but gets blocked and countered. Matthews now has blood streaming out of the corner of his right eye. Matthews is circling outside and hugging the ropes, trying to avoid further contact. Big sloppy attack by Spence, caught on the guard.

Matthews knows he's out of the tournament. He's known since halfway through the third. He looks deflated and dismayed, even though he clearly won.

The winner of Flannigan vs. Walsh could wind up dodging a bullet if Matthews' people can't get his cut under control in time for the semis.

They could wind up facing some alternate and getting a clear path to the Finals (unless they take a lot out of each other, or one of them gets cut...)
