An undefeated record in boxing is undoubtedly impressive ... but it can also be misleading.*Rocky Marciano*and*Joe Calzaghe*are two of the few modern fighters who retired having won every single fight of their professional career. Both are Hall of Famers with wins over Hall of Fame caliber fighters on their resumes ... but both Marciano and Calzaghe scored their biggest wins against stars who were well past their primes.

Depends on caliber of opponent/whether or not opponent was in prime. You can't argue against Mayweather, and no, I'm not a May fan. All he has to do is beat Pac and he's a solid lock for superstardom ten times he has now...and before we go any further, don't give me any arguments Castillo beat Mayweather, he didn't on paper, and he didn't in anyone's head.

Depends who they have faced, but 29-0 looks better than 29-1.

of course it's impressive. You'd think it was too if you didn't hate Floyd.

SRL is a great fighter, but imagine if he never lost to Duran and retired after the third Duran dight and never came back to lose to Norris and Camacho.
He would have retired 37-0-1 with wins over the same people.

Is that more impressive or not?

Whichever way you want to look at it, getting in the ring 46 times and winning 46 times is impressive.

    East Side Boxing

Where more people will disagree with this than agree with it to suit their own agenda.

Leonard has fantastic names on his record, though. If he'd only fought B level fighters his legacy wouldn't be half of what it is now, even if he was undefeated.

The names are more important than the zero.

Highly overratted in this day and age .. I mean you got Floyd who not only cherry picks but fights once a year ..

Joe Calzaghe spent 10 yrs beating guys that weren't on his level .

Do I really need to say anything else ?

    a little bit of both.

Of course its impressive, you never lost. whats not impressive about that.

But in some cases it can be overrated. Because just because we have never seen Joe Calzaghe, Floyd Mayweather, or atgs like Marciano actually lose, doesn't mean they cant.
