Duran's chin was about as sturdy as they come.. But Hearns also hit like a light heavyweight when he was at middle. Plus with Duran being past his prime and Tommy having everything going his way that night, the result should not be surprising in hindsite ( of course at the time, it was shocking as hell. ) So no.. There is nothing wrong with Roberto's chin.
Ok sorry guys, I might be bipolar or something. Just delete this thread mods, don't know why I sometimes do it but I just can't stop.
Anybody in the world of boxing would have been knocked out by that punch. you cant say that duran had a glass chin after that. anyone would have been out after that
:nono I think this thread serves as is a sterling example of what can happen when one fails to use reason or logic (or forgets to take their meds).
I think the result had more to do with Hearns's punching power. Duran is grossly overrated, but I don't think a lack of a chin was an issue with him.
No because Duran didnt have a glass jaw..Ever, and if you watch that fight, that right hand Hearns knocked Duran out with woulda knocked a tree down..
Duran had a great chin, but his defense was always great so he was rarely hit clean. Even when it looked like guys hit him clean, they were usually moving back like Leonard when they hit him, or Duran saw the punch coming. Hearns was the only one who went after Duran to really knock him out. Tommy went for it and put in a lot of leverage and punches. Duran took Tommy's best for 2 rounds. Had he not had a great chin he wouldn't have lasted that long with the clean punches Duran was taking.
Hagler wouldn't have been knocked out. But Hagler didn't have a good chin, I don't mean "not good" as in "bad" I mean "not good" as his chin is the best (p4p) ever.
Duran got ktfo in that one Amazing ko. They were still trying to get Durans effed up face was forever carved into the canvass
