Welterweight. PRIME FOR PRIME. SRL was stronger, yet both had flashy style and speed, and both threw the bolo punch haha. Ive seen way more footage of SRL. Both were agressive, The cuban Hawk took on SRR twice, and had many more fights than Ray Leonard. Classic Opinion?
I like Gavilan by decision in a tough, fast, classy fight. The Kid can match Ray Leonard`s speed and keep him off balance with his awkward punching angles and workrate. Leonard could punch maybe slightly better but I think Gavlian hit better than he is given credit for. Both guys take a helluva punch so I see this as a distance fight everytime.
Very tight distance fight. I give the edge to Leonard because of his ability to switch gameplans very quickly. Very like Ali in that way.
It's like a plague. Not a bad one, but still. Judges probably take Leonard in a virtually dead even fight.
Now that would have been the one and only time that SRL Leonards gets straight beat the **** up and waisted early. 2 maybe 3 rounds ill give Ray..But Kid woulda just been to much for him and thers no way even with Leonards speed and movement, he would not be abe to keep Gavilan off him.
Cmon man you aint gotta do that..Disagree with me all you want and we'll talk about, but your gonna be an ignorant fool then stay off my threads, I got no beef with you Philly..But you can handle **** a little differently than talkin to me like that my man.
This is how I have it. Gavilan was a great in his own right. It was only Sugar Ray Robinson's existence preventing him from becoming dominant at welterweight for quite a number of years. Nonetheless,on the night that Leonard beat Thomas Hearns,in their first fight,Robinson would have been the only one at that weight I would bank on beating him, with a sufficient degree of certainty.
