I wonder if Winstone would have been typecast as the 'ard man type if this scene had of made it into the final film version of scum.

i dont know anything about him but from his wiki page it says

At the age of 12, Winstone joined the famous Repton Amateur Boxing Club and, over the next 10 years, won 80 out of 88 bouts. At welterweight, he was London schoolboy champion on three occasions, fighting twice for England. The experience gave him a perspective on his later career: "If you can get in a ring with 2,000 people watching and be smacked around by another guy, then walking onstage isn't hard."

yea he was as he boxed for the repton in brthnal green,if you go the repton club and you will see photos of him in action from the early 70,s. he is a good pal of john h.stracey and he has even told me that ray was a good fighter but wanted to pursue his career in the acting game,as he was a extra in films and tv series as a kid as well.glen murphy was also a good amateur as he boxed for west ham:good p.s. meant bethnal green:patsch

Would be surprised if his record was true but not that surprised to hear he won school boy titles and wore an England vest.

Lee Evans was supposedly a decent amateur too.

yea he did box for england as theirs a photo in the repton of that too with his england vest. i believe liam neeson was a irish amateur champion too, also jackie wilson (singer) was a golden gloves champion and jay silverheels (actor) was a golden gloves champion, johnny burnette (singer) golden gloves champion, chris isaak (singer) golden gloves champion, terence trent darby (singer) golden gloves champion. famous actors who were once pro fighters tony danza, jack palance (fought joe baski) and victor mclaglen of "the quiet man" fame and always in them cavalry films with john wayne fought jack johnson in a exhibition,he had loads of fights him. cant think of anymore actors or singers etc who were ex fighters can you ? :bbb
