    NOT SO FAST: Lightweight champion Mando Ramos loved the night life so much that his management was prepared to go to any length to keep him in training camp, Including hiring the Long Beach P.D. to prevent the popular Californian from going AWOL. The ploy/publicity stunt worked, because Ramos retained the title with a sixth-round kayo of Yoshiaki Numata, Oct,1969.

    The first one was outdoors at the Coliseum, if I remember correctly.

    Yes, I did...Watching them live I thought Patterson won both fight...I have never watched them on tape/film.

    Why did the 'press' on the west coast give Jerry Quarry such a hard time.

    I read a statement, where Jerry said, 'Even if I win the Heavyweight Championship,
    the press guys will come by my house and throw garbage on the front lawn.'
