Sonny just hammers em. If you thought Wepner bled from being at the end of Liston's jab, Henery would be an awful site if it lasted long enough. Henery had a top notch left hook but he wasn't going to land it on Liston the way Leotis Martin did later to an older and maybe sick Liston.
Destruction in the first round by Liston - I remember reading somewhere that Cooper's manager made sure that they avoided Liston completely - he even said "We don't even want to meet Liston walking down the same street."
he was also way too small for a heavyweight, even in that era. he had to rough size of marciano, but nowhere near his strength. would have made a great cruiser though...
I don't remember where I read that either, but I wiki'd it: Henry Cooper said that if Cassius Clay won, he was interested in a title fight, but if Liston won, he was not going to get in the ring with him. Cooper's manager Jim Wicks said, "We don't even want to meet Liston walking down the same street."
The first decapitation in heavyweight history. (I'm thinking you can figure out who the decapitee will be)
The problem, Ol 'Enry had no defense. And with that 'the skin' he just wouldn't hold up more than 2 1/2 Rounds.
Liston knocks Henry spark out in the first round.Cooper was knocked out by Folley,Johannson,Patterson and Joe Bygraves FFS.
