Gatti was always smart enough and was conscious to take a knee when hurt badly enough.

Good to hear my man, we need you around in this day.

I thought Alvy was looking for something, there was a moment where he completely shifted focus and the ref took note. No shame in losing the fight, as Mike was winning.

Make way for the rematch $$$$

How many fighters have the kind of wars that Gatti had and as many?

And what ever gave you the impression that I thought "every time" Gatti was hurt, he took a knee?:huh. That's interesting...

Honest truth is they don't let fights go on like they used to a few years ago. Refs are more conservative now when it comes to situations like ths where the losing fighter is in between getting his legs back and dropping his guard. If he eats three four solid ones with no defense it's pretty much over

    Good stoppage, no question.

However, it's also clear that if it had been Rios on the ropes, the ref would have let the fight continue. The fix was definitely in.

Bottom line the referee explained exactly what he saw and why he did what he did, I trust his judgement. You can say whatever you want, but what you cant say is that Alvardo wasn't hurt badly, and that he didn't take about 5-6 unanswered huge shots. There was a minute left and no way Alvardo survives that minute.

    I hope you're kidding.

Rios would not have stopped hitting a defenseless Alvarado, possible injuring him permanently.

    Great stoppage ref.

I wouldn't be mad if the fight continued a bit longer. I wanted to see if Alvarado would hit the canvas. BUT, from what I saw, Alvarado looked badly hurt and lost in space. Usually when someone's in that state he ends up getting knocked out cold. But hey, if Rios can't get a great opponent for his next fight, fighting Alvarado again would not be a bad idea - except make it 12 rds next time.

  13. I thought the stoppage was perfect. The ref gave him plenty of time to recover and it was clear that Alvarado was out on his feet, his hands weren't up, he was staring blankly ahead and not looking at his opponent when the ref jumped in.

Also... this was a great great ****in fight, and talking about the stoppage like this is a distraction from all the brutal **** that went on in there. Max Kellerman was full of **** when he went on about the fans being robbed of a special fight because of the stoppage. Bull. ****ing. ****. I was on the edge of my couch, my heart was beating outta my chest and my hands were shaking at the end of that fight.

you'd think with the new teaming up of ESPN and HBO, you'd let them get some highlight reel knockouts to show on Sportscenter. if you want these fighters to get exposure, let these fights play out on their own.

Gatti/Ward.....Robinson.....his fight with Gabriel... I think against DLH and Floyd, the ref had to save him.
