Boxers to 'clean out' their division?

    Don't think he missed anyone before he retired and then came back and best two top guys. I'd say he deserves to be recognised as doing so. Nice call.

    Good call!:good Klaus did indeed barrel through all the title claimants and made a bit of sanity out of that post-Ketchel mess. But then Al McCoy got his fluke against Chip and everything was insanity again.

    No he didn't. He fought many gooftroopers who were unrated, looked terrible on film, and had no business getting title shots.

    Bob Baker, Clarence Henry, Rocky Marciano, Roland Lastarza, Rex Layne were all far better options than many of the ham and eggers who got shots vs Charles in 50-51.

    Great stuff. Tysons reign of terror was legendary,
    unified, undefeated, undisputed, lineal. What more
    could you ask for. What do you guys think of De La Hoya
    at lightweight? I know he didnt clean out the division, maybe
    a step below that, beat some tough guys in gheir prime.
    Hopkins at middle? I dont know a lot about Tunney, did
    he clean out lightheavy in his day?

    Rocky Marciano 'cleaned out the house' before he got the title.

    Same thing with Sonny Liston.

    Liston cleaned out the division waiting for a title shot.

    He beat every contender of any significance except Cooper and Johansson, neither of whom would fight him.

    No, not really. He was the last 'generally recognized' Heavyweight Champion of the World. Post 1988 ish there were too many titles to unify all of them.

    Akinwande held the WBO belt when Lewis beat him. he effectively unified the WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO/Ring/Lineal bealts.

    Yes he 'metaphorically' did, he clearly was 'The Man'. But it had by that time become almost impossible to 'literally' unify all the titles.
