Ive travelled everywhere watching boxing, im a Liverpool lad myself, but .................. the Liverpool Echo Arena is a terrible terrible place to visit to watch a fight

And the reason, scousers !!!, not all but i have to admit, its a ****ing large number, the lad who started this thread seems genuinely shocked at what goes on, but thats Liverpool, the problem here being is that when you have so many scousers under 1 roof, its just everything we/they (not me personally) do, on a much larger scale, which can bread a disaster

It embarrasses me to admit im from Liverpool when things like this come up, it really does

My first fight at the Echo was Dodson Quigley, which wasnt too bad actually, my 2nd was Quigley Smith which was the definitive worst experience id had as a paying fan watching pro boxing, and it was my own people doing all the **** the TS has stated goes on !!!, its wrong, but im not sure what can be done about it, if i was an outsider coming into Liverpool i just wouldnt go, disgraceful but its a fact of life unfortunately

 

Interesting thread Brum. I really don't see how a fight like Fury/Price could ever happen safely, Liverpool or not, but especially in Liverpool. It's a massive concern about that fight, as much as its a great matchup and would create a huge buzz, the after effects of the warzone it would become would overshadow all.

Drink in boxing is a massive problem, IMO. Even on the average card recently I've seen people becoming Rocky after coming in a little drunk and hitting the plastic cups hard so add in a little rivalry to proceedings and its not good. Not good at all.

The problem is they don't wanna do away with the drink because for a lot of people its about a lot more than the boxing, its a night out, its an event. You can tell this by the number of idiots going to order drinks during significant undercard bouts, and the way the arena is deserted if theres anything after the main event.

 

What happened in the crowd during the dicco mcphilbin fight?

 

I was a couple rows above from where it kicked off in the lower tier in the last round of the dickinson vs mcphilbin fight, the security **** themselves until the police showed up. Don't how it started but it turned into a brawl i think somebody got knocked out.

 

Sounds pretty bad.

If I go and watch boxing I go with my old man, who's not particularly into it but goes along as he knows I love it and he treats it as an event - if he saw that going on I know he wouldn't go with me again.

The sport is an art, to me to think you can only take mates or people who are happy to see that sort of thing going on is a great shame.

 

Did something kick off during the Eubank fight too? Looked like twenty or so big guys jogging across the place, not sure if it was trouble or not.

I don't think the tv team needed to give the trouble as much air time as they did, I found myself trying to spot crowd trouble. Personally think its embarrassing fighting over area codes or football teams, just grow up. My gf got me tickets for a Mitchell fight a while back so I took her, she doesn't like boxing and mini fights kicking off all over didn't help.

 

Most fights in this country I wouldn't even consider going to. I'm actually interested in watching a boxing match, not being surrounded by loutish casual fans interested in being aggressive obnoxious dicks. Boxing has the best and worst fans on the planet.

 

Any show I've been to in London I've never had any problems.

Although I know there was a lot of trouble after Mitchell Katsidis but I didnt go to that one

 

I think there'd have to be some segregation if there was a Fury/Price fight. There's no way you get could get Mancs/gypsies and scousers drinking for hours without a massive problem. Give both fighters 50% allocation and the fans get to buy the tickets of the fighter they're supporting. If that didn't happen, things would kick off massively. There'd still be problems even if they did do that but the idea of having groups of opposing fans sat next to each other for a big fight is insanity.

Security outside is a big issue as well. There's no doubt that there'd be trouble. **** knows how much it'd cost the promoters to secure the event.

Personally, I'd love to be there for Price/Fury but I'm just a boxing fan. I have no interest in going to one of these events when the threat of violence is so high. Something like Bowe/Golota is a genuine possibility and that's enough to put me off. **** that. I'm not scared, because nothing would happen to me, but I just couldn't be doing with the distraction.

 

I'd stay away from that fight, personally.

You just know it'd kick off.

Saying that they'd surely impose a booze ban in the arena.... might even close the pubs.

Some of Fury's fans are grade A* scumbags, throw in some pissed up Scousers and it's going to be eventful.

There'll be football hooligans everywhere.

One group will be chanting ''who's that dying on the runway'' and the other will be chanting ''murderers, murderers, murderers''

Didn't see the broadcast last night but so far I have been to Nottingham for the Froch/Bute fight and the Bellew/Miranda fight in London. The people of Nottingham were great company and the Romanian fans were friendly and gave good banter, didn't see any trouble in london either.

I'll be going up to Manchester for the Hatton comeback, should I be expecting trouble?

 

You'd just get the hooligans buying from the opposing side. A lot of these folk just go for a fight. It's not an accident.
