Especially when it comes to world class/elite level....I mean Tony Bellew beat a washed up Miranda...and now he's the second coming of Hamed...there are so many examples of this...it pisses me off...just like the england team...sorry about the rant....it just hurts to see "some" of these fighter's get so out class when it come to world/elite level sometimes...Only guys worth mentioning at this point are Froch & Haye...the others...have some way to go.. Because that's how this country works, set them up and then smash them when they fall. We always overrate our sportsmen and women, with the football it's beyond even arrogance how we have the cheek to call some of that crap world class and the managers like they deserve a job because there British and there better then the foreigners. With the boxers it's slightly like that, not as bad IMHO.
It's largely due to the media knowing its audience. A lot of British fans who watch boxing are lager drinking football hooligans ignorant to boxing as a whole and only interested in its violence. Ergo they big up British fighters because they know these people will appreciate people saying 'Ricky Hatton will beat Mayweather'. It's a shame because Britain has produced some very, very good fighters but they generally don't achieve what they have been predicted to achieve because of the over hyping. Level headed British fight fans know British fighters' limitations. Unfortunately most have no ****ing clue.
For you to say that I realise you know nothing about my country & sport...you sir are a vagorbond...stay away from my threads...I bid you good night sir.
i haven't heard anyone claim that bellew is the second coming of anyone. he's been given exposure as an exciting fighter on his way up. nothing more. nobody is saying that he's going to be the champ in the division, just that they're looking forward to see how far he can go. i think he has the tools to do very well, but right now he's just a solid prospect. he proved he was a good solid fighter with skill when he took cleverly to a close UD. think people are confusing "exposure" to "hype". it's easily done.
